Brett Ratner Out As Academy Awards Show Producer

Brett Ratner is stepping down as producer of the Oscars show after some bad press in recent days according to THR.

He said that "rehearsal is for fags" and discussed his sex life on Howard Stern. No word if this will affect Eddie Murphy's hosting duties -- as Ratner was the one who recruited him.

From THR:

Director Brett Ratner is planning to step down as Oscar producer, a source close to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences tells The Hollywood Reporter. The source says a decision has been made and the Academy will make an announcement shortly.

Ratner had been named as the producer of the 2012 Academy Awards show, but he has been under fire for making a series of ill-judged remarks in recent days, including saying "rehearsal is for fags" and discussing his sex life with Howard Stern.

The Academy is expected to issue an announcement detailing the situation later today. It is not yet known whether Eddie Murphy, who stars in Ratner's film Tower Heist and was recruited by Ratner to serve as the host of the Oscar show, will remain involved with the production.
