AMC isn't ready to let go of Breaking Bad just yet.
Entertainment Weekly reports AMC has officially given the greenlight to a spin-off series centering on Breaking Bad character Saul Goodman, played by Bob Odenkirk. Though the network and studio, Sony Pictures Television, have only reached a licensing agreement for the new series, the show is expected to receive an official series order once the contracts are finalized.
The series, still tentatively titled Better Call Saul, after the lawyer's famous slogan, is a one-hour prequel that will "chronicle the exploits of the show’s charmingly disreputable lawyer" in the years before he crossed paths with future meth kingpin Walter White (Bryan Cranston). The concept has been developed by Breaking Bad creator/executive producer Vince Gilligan and co-executive producer Peter Gould. There is no timetable just yet as for when the show would premiere.
As for the prequel's parent show, AMC will air the series finale of Breaking Bad on Sept. 29.
