Brad Pitt Attacked at 'Maleficent' Premiere
For the most part, Brad Pitt has been having a great 2014, having won a Best Picture Oscar as one of the producers behind 12 Years A Slave. But one man did his damndest to ruin things at Wednesday night's world premiere screening of Maleficent, starring Pitt's partner Angelina Jolie and 5-year-old daughter Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.
While Pitt and Jolie were signing autographs from the red carpet of the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, a man jumped the security barricade and approached the 50-year-old actor. Allegedly, the man struck Pitt in the face before being restrained by security guards and held until LAPD could take him into custody.
The man has since been identified as Ukranian TV presenter and "celebrity prankster" (ugh) Vitalii Sediuk, 25, who apparently makes a routine out of this sort of pointless behavior. Sediuk has now been arrested and booked on suspicion of misdemeanor battery, according to LAPD Sgt. Leonard Calderon. The man is currently being held on $20,000 bail, begging the question of whether it was really worth it to slap an Oscar winner -- especially when there are plenty of actual jerks out there who remain unslapped.
Of course, Sediuk must not have been actually seeking anything beyond fifteen minutes in the spotlight, since his attack wasn't enough to significantly harm Pitt, who immediately resumed signing autographs right after the attack.
“This was an unfortunate and inappropriate incident that is being investigated by the LAPD,” a spokesperson for Disney told Variety.
Sediuk's previous moments in the spotlight involve getting caught with his head under America Ferrera's dress at Cannes just 11 days ago. He also crashed the Grammys last year, rushing the stage and attempting to accept Adele's award for best solo performance. For that little stunt, he was jailed overnight and banned from setting foot in the L.A. Live complex. Sediuk has also pulled a series of other stunts, from grabbing Leonardo DiCaprio to groping Bradley Cooper. Hell, he even tried to kiss Will Smith, and eventually got slapped for his trouble. You'd think there would be a better way to get to first base with a celebrity, yet here we are. Check out photo of Sediuk's arrest below, then let's begin to put this entire thing behind us, lest Sediuk actually achieve that pesky fame he appears to be desperately seeking:
