'Boyhood' Tops New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2014 - Winners List
The winners have been announced for the New York Film Critics Circle Awards 2014, one of the first significant stops on the road to the Academy Awards. The top film is Richard Linklater's Boyhood, the coming-of-age drama filmed over the course of nearly 12 years, depicting the development of a young boy via the real-time maturation of lead star Ellar Coltrane.
Considered to be one of the Oscar frontrunners, the film also took home awards for Best Director, and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. Also among the big winners were J.K. Simmons for Best Supporting Actor in Whiplash, Marion Cotillard for Best Actress in both The Immigrant and Two Days, One Night, and Timothy Spall for Best Actor in Mr. Turner, a film which made headlines as one of the five movies leaked to the internet following a hacker attack on Sony. Granted, it would be kind of poetic if the visibility the film has received as a result of the hackers' efforts ended up increasing its profile for Oscar season.
