'Boardwalk Empire' Star Shea Whigham Joins Marvel's 'Agent Carter'
Boardwalk Empire star Shea Whigham is leaving the era of Prohibition behind for the era of World War II.
Whigham has signed on as the male lead in ABC's upcoming midseason drama, Marvel’s Agent Carter. Whigham will play the “tough but fair-minded Strategic Scientific Reserve Chief Roger Dooley, the man who will oversee agents Carter (Hayley Atwell), Thompson (Chad Michael Murray) and Sousa (Enver Gjokaj),” which essentially makes him Agent Carter's equivalent to S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury. Or, to use a more relevant TV example, Agent Phil Coulson from ABC's other big action-adventure drama, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D..
Boardwalk Empire is currently wrapping up its final season, so it should be interesting to see where the show's other talented stars end up. Seriously, the cast for that show is far too good not to land high-profile work like this on network TV (and cable as well. I'd love to see actors like Gretchen Mol and Michael K. Williams on TV more. It's already great to see Whigham land on a hyped project like this.
