Boardwalk Empire - Ourselves Alone - Recap

After being arrested and investigated for election fraud, Nucky has to come to terms with those who have betrayed him. Margaret is at home, feeling helpless when Nucky avoids her to shield her from the mess he's gotten himself into. She's left dealing with the sudden arrival of men from Ireland who are there for a dinner to help raise money for the IRA. With them, they bring a new guy; Owen Sleater, who is there to have an accent and be charming. Nucky is left contemplating who exactly is against him. Though he may try to ignore it, he knows Jimmy has fallen and taken Eli with him. Margaret tries to prove herself useful and goes down to Nucky's office in disguise as it is being invaded. While inside, she steals Nucky's ledger and his 20 thousand in cash that he was hiding. Nucky is shocked to see that she was able to save it for him. They come to an understanding and she tells him to burn the ledger.

Jimmy is in New York, trying to make a deal with Rothstein. Lucky and his goons are trying to commandeer Jimmy on the side. They're branching out into the heroin market on their own and Jimmy may be just the man they're looking for. Jimmy can certainly handle himself. As can Chalky who is still sitting in a jail cell with an arrogant douche canoe who just refuses to let Chalky read his stories. The power of this scene is so well done. Chalky exudes such patience, pretending to be able to read his book for hours on end not speaking to anyone while this guy badgers him. Then this dude rips Chalky's book and that's just the last thing he's gonna do. Turns out the entire group of men who were thought to be this guy's friend, are men who know and respect Chalky. Let's just say it doesn't end well for this guy.
