Billy Ray Cyrus Says Miley's Actions Were "Smart"

Billy Ray Cyrus recently stood up for his daughter Miley Cyrus in an interview with Arsenio Hall.

After she hit headlines with her controversial 'We Can't Stop' song and video with barely concealed drug references, hit them again when she twerked against Robin Thicke and did strange things with a foam finger at the VMAs, and finally rode around naked on a sledgehammer (all while licking it) during her 'Wrecking Ball' music video, plenty of eyebrows were raised and a huge proportion of the internet concluded she was either crazy or "going through a phase". However, Billy Ray has come out a few times defending his daughter, and now has committed this to interview, elaborating further.

When asked about Miley's recent MTV documentary, Miley: The Movement, Billy Ray had this to say: "She’s smart. She thought this thing out in advance of where she was going. She’s going back to her heart and her roots of music, that’s who she is. She grew up around the greats, Waylon Jennings, Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash. The greatest. All that being said… that show, expressed where she is going, reinventing herself. She is a singer-songwriter and has a great way of expressing herself."

Hmm. I'm not convinced. You can watch this section of the interview below:
