Billie Joe Armstrong Admits Christina's Singers Had No Clue Who He Was

Green Day front man Billie Joe Armstrong, admits Team Xtina's singers often didn't know who he was at the start of their mentoring sessions.

In an interview with The Sun, Armstrong says that "It’s hilarious as in some of the pre-recordings we've done with the younger kids. I’d be introduced as the surprise guest and they ask ‘Who the f*** are you?’

“Then Christina would say ‘Here is Billie Joe from Green Day’ and they are like ‘What’s a Green Day?’ It’s such fun.”

Billie Joe calls The Voice a "guilty pleasure" for he and his wife and attributes his invitation to be a mentor to his long time friendship with Adam Levine, who he has known since he was sixteen.

Armstrong was given a choice between Team Xtina and Team Adam, but decided to go with Christina's team because he thought it would be "more interesting."

I think the combination of Christina and Billie Joe could make for some interesting mentoring sessions.  I like the idea of teaming up the coaches with mentors that have different styles.  I think it will give the teams more flexibility in coaching different types of singers.

Green Day was one of those "soundtrack to my childhood" bands and I'm excited to see what Billie Joe can bring to The Voice.

Armstrong and Green Day are working on three albums:

¡Uno! is out on September 24 followed by ¡Dos! in November and ¡Tré! In January.
