Big Machine Label Group Announce New Label; Take Over Country Music
It's no secret that Big Machine Label Group are taking over country music. Founded in September 2005 by former DreamWorks executive Scott Borchetta with a 15-year-old Taylor Swift as the flagship artist, bit by bit they added artists to their roster, with the success of the former greatly increasing their fame and fortune.
In November 2007 they launched a subsidiary imprint called Valory Music Group, which today plays hosts to artists such as Justin Moore, Brantley Gilbert, Thomas Rhett and The Mavericks, as well as Reba McEntire in association with her own label, Starstruck. Following that, in June 2009 they merged with Universal Republic Records to form Republic Records Nashville, which now boasts hitmakers The Band Perry, Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line, Cassadee Pope and Dallas Smith (plus formerly Martina McBride). What's more, Big Machine Records itself continues to feature Taylor Swift alongside Tim McGraw, Rascal Flatts, Danielle Bradbery, The Cadillac Three and Laura Bell Bundy.
So it hardly seems surprising that they are now launching a fourth label within their group, called Dot Records. Who knows the kind of acts they plan on signing, whether new ones or established acts leaving other labels, but one thing's for sure: they will be hugely successful no matter what happens.
