Big Love - Winter - Recap

The families are dealing with the aftermath of exposing themselves to the public and coming out as polygamists. They're struggling with the uncertainty of what tomorrow holds for them and only Nicki seems to be holding it together. Barb sends Teeny to live with Sarah and the families go camping to get away from the reporters and bad publicity that have been plaguing them since their announcement.

Margene is perhaps taking things harder than the others, spending her time sobbing and howling like a coyote. And perhaps she does have more to be sad over. She loses her job and everything she built in the blink of an eye. But, this is what she signed up for. Margene was a little selfish last season and I can't put my finger on just what is going on inside her head. She tops it all off by alienating one of her only friends by divorcing Goran and sending him back to whatever country he's from.

Things are even more icy between Barb and Nicki than usual. Nicki's declaration that she doesn't want to share Bill anymore probably struck something of a nerve in Barb. Barb's been doubting her decision to go along with their plural marriage since day 1. In a move that took even me by surprise, straight laced Barb turns to alcohol to deal with her confusion. This is one of the things she intends to explore after deciding she no longer needs Bill. Unfortunately, she hasn't divorced him yet.

Oh, Nicki. She's such a psychopath and that's what makes her one of my favorite characters. When one of her children comes home after being brutally hazed and bullied at school, Barb pressures Nicki to do something about it. On her own, without Barb's help. Can Nicki do it? Well..she accomplishes something at least. And by that I mean she confronts the kid who did it, verbally abuses him until he runs into a pole and knocks his teeth out. Nice. I love Nicki.

Bill and the family go to the school board to ask for help with the situation but just like at his multiple jobs, Bill isn't getting any help anytime soon. The bully recognizes Nicki and all hell breaks loose when Margene loses it with a reporter. Anyone else feel like Margene is two steps away from snapping? Ding ding ding. Round two and Nicki and Barb have it out. Barb calls Nicki a hypocrite because let's face it, Nicki's done some crazy stuff in the past and Barb's drinking should be the least of her worries. Remember when she was lying about taking birth control? And wasn't Nicki drinking at a bowling alley with Ana?

Round three erupts when Don finally calls Bill out on his selfishness. That was 5 years in the making. Bill tries one more time to reach out to the community with an open house. Unfortunately for them, no one shows up. Just as they are about to throw in the towel, the family of the bully shows up. And it turns out they're polygamists too. At least now they have someone to talk to.

What is Alby planning? With his extreme depression over losing Dale and Bill shining a spotlight on their way of life, I worry that Alby is gonna do something that will have drastic consequences for someone. And I love Alby so I just hope Laura doesn't kill him anytime soon. How long can Nicki hide what Adaleen did to Cara Lynn's father? What will happen when it gets out? What did you think of the premiere? I personally was hoping for a few more OMG moments than what we got.
