Big Love - A Seat at the Table - Recap

Bill is still attempting to make it seem like he knows what he's doing. I find it amazing how convinced he is that everything will work out for him no matter what risk he takes. And I also find it incredible that someone so douchey has three wives. But anyway, Bill stages a meeting with as many polygamist leaders as he can find to try and plan a compound reform. Conditions are bad and everyone knows it. He's trying to start a reform to make himself look like a hero without the world realizing how bad things really are. This is what Alby is counting on. He attends the meeting via a webcam and sabotages the whole thing. When he gets into a fight with Nicki over poor education of compound teenagers, all hell breaks loose. Politicians try to impeach Bill and nothing seems to be going his way. I don't think politics or a casino is where he belongs. In fact, I have a very different idea about where he'll end up...

Bill isn't only alienating politicians. When Margene starts to show erratic behavior resulting in Ana being thrown to the ground, he blames her and Goran as being a bad influence. He's very logical. He arranges for not only Goran to go back to Serbia but Ana too. Margene is less than thrilled with this and is hurt that he's sending her only friends away. Margene visits the location of a trailer she used to live in with her mother and we learn, although it's not too shocking, that she regrets the choices in her life that led her here. She may not regret her family life but she hates the way things are going and is on the road to a good breakdown. Bill lets her know that if she's unhappy then she has the choice to leave the family. What is she hiding?

Adaleen is out of the hole and is seeking help for her bizarre pregnancy. It's more than a little suspicious to say the least. All of this is having an impact on the already fragile Nicki who is taking it out on everyone around her. Nicki starts to panic over the way her daughter is brought up. Her early interest in boys is obviously making Nicki have serious flashbacks to her teenage years of being raped and impregnated on the compound. She tries to shield her from everything and forbids her to see the boy she likes, makes her quit her job, and tries to get her to become a math prodigy. Yeah, that'll go over well. The final straw comes when Nicki discovers that Barb gave Cara Lynn a book she deems questionable. Nicki delivers a low blow to Barb relating to everything Sara has gone through and Barb leaves the room in tears.

Barb is trying to find herself. She's leaning on pills as well as alcohol now. She doesn't seem to enjoy how women in this religion are inferior to men and it seems to explain her actions a bit more. Barb even tries to give Margie a blessing which before now was unheard of for a woman to do. Barb turns to her mother for support but things get ugly and they fight over her religion and life choices. Barb is also harboring a secret about Lois. What is SHE hiding? Did she kill Frank and leave him in a ditch somewhere? She doesn't seem all there. Nicki apologizes to Barb and they dance together.

This season is starting off slowly but I have faith things will pick up in a big way. Alby has not been evil enough in my opinion. I'm very curious what Lois and Margene are hiding.
