'Big Bang Theory' and 'Elementary' Moving to New Night This Fall

Two of the most reliable Thursday night performers for CBS will be out of a home come September. Due to CBS's recent acquisition of Thursday Night Football for eight weeks this fall, The Big Bang Theory and Elementary need to find a new place to hang out.

During a quarterly earnings conference call, CBS CEO Les Moonves said the network is “not going to wait until November” to premiere the eighth season of The Big Bang Theory, which is still TV's No. 1 comedy in terms of sheer viewership. Moonves also confirmed that, should Elementary receive a third season, it would be moving to a new night as well.

Moonves asserted that the Thursday night mainstays would premiere their new seasons “on some other night,” while Thursday Night Football will be used to promote those shows, along with other fall series. Of course, Moonves didn't actually speculate which night that would be, since the 2014-2015 schedule is far from locked down. But Moonves did confirm that The Big Bang Theory and Elementary would return to their regular Thursday night time slots once CBS’s eight-game Thursday Night Football commitment has been fulfilled.

Now all the network needs to do is pick a night, which is easier said than done. Lots of schedule shuffling to go around.
