Despite two Best Actress Oscar nominations to her name, Bette Midler is still known primarily as a singer. However, she's never had the chance to actually perform on the Oscars telecast. Until now.
Oscar nominee and multi-time Grammy winner Bette Midler will perform for the first time on the Oscars, according to an official press release from the Academy.
“We are thrilled to have Bette perform on the Oscars for the very first time,” said show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron in the statement. “We believe she will make our Oscar telecast an especially moving evening.”
Midler received Best Actress nominations for her performances in For the Boys and The Rose. She's also sold 30 million albums worldwide, winning multiple Grammys in the process for such songs as “The Rose” (Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) and “Wind Beneath My Wings” (Record of the Year). In addition, she has been honored with three Emmy Awards and a special Tony Award in 1974 for her contribution to that year’s Broadway season.
No word on what, exactly, Midler will be performing at the Oscars, but we'll all find out when the 86th Academy Awards are presented live on Sunday, March 2 on ABC.
