Betsy Brandt Joins 'Masters of Sex'

NBC's loss is Showtime's gain.

The decision to pull The Michael J. Fox Show from the schedule has now freed up Betsy Brandt to star in Showtime's Masters of Sex. The former Breaking Bad star will recur on the Emmy-nominated drama as Barbara, the new secretary to Dr. William Masters (Michael Sheen). She takes over the role from Margo Martindale's Miss Horchow, who appeared in the series premiere.

Of course, this is a bit of a unique situation in that NBC hasn't officially canceled The Michael J. Fox Show yet. The comedy, which was pulled from the network's schedule with just seven unaired episodes to go, still hasn't been rescheduled. But its removal from the schedule all but assures its cancellation, particularly since another Michael J. Fox Show star is moving on to a Showtime drama: Wendell Pierce will guest-star in the second season of the critically-divisive Ray Donovan. Brandt joins a cast of Season 2 newcomers that already includes Keke Palmer (?True Jackson, VP).

This is a huge gain for the show, which was last season's best new drama, for my money. Season 2 is really shaping up to give the first a run for its money.
