Ben McKenzie has traveled from The O.C. to Southland. Now, he's now headed from Southland to Gotham City.
McKenzie has landed the highly-coveted role of Detective James Gordon in FOX's upcoming drama series, Gotham. The drama will serve as an origin story for the young Jim Gordon, played by Gary Oldman in Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, as he takes on the villains that made Gotham iconic. The Mentalist creator Bruno Heller will act as executive producer for the series.
McKenzie assured fans on Twitter that he would do everything in his power not to let them down.
All I can promise is I will do my best not to screw this up. Can't wait to get to work.— Ben McKenzie (@ben_mckenzie) February 8, 2014
FOX boss Kevin Reilly revealed, at the TCA Winter Press Tour, that Gotham will be an "operatic soap" intended to showcase "Gotham teetering on the edge." This means we'll be seeing a bunch of familiar faces, including The Joker, The Penguin, Catwoman, even Bruce Wayne. "Batman is in it, a young Bruce Wayne," Reilly confirmed, although we'll only be seeing him as "a young boy" around the age of 12. Not really sure how this is supposed to work, since I'm not certain Catwoman, for instance, is supposed to be that much older than Batman. But then, this is a new continuity. It should be, at the very least, an interesting take on the Batman mythos.
