Ben Haenow Scores Coveted UK Christmas #1 (VIDEO)
Ben Haenow, winner of The X Factor UK 2014, has scored the Christmas #1, in keeping with the tradition set by previous X Factor winners Shayne Ward, Leona Lewis, Leon Jackson, Alexandra Burke, Matt Cardle and Sam Bailey.
"Something I Need" has taken the coveted top spot for the holiday, selling over 214,000 copies to become the second-fastest selling single of the year in the UK (just behind Band Aid 30’s charity single, "Do They Know It’s Christmas?," which sold close to 313,000 in November). Haenow won the Christmas No. 1 spot after narrowly edging out Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars, whose "Uptown Funk" came in at No. 2.
"To have even been in the running for Christmas number one against some of the names that were in the race, and then to have actually won is incredible. It’s an incredible end to my year," said Haenow. "I’m gonna go and have a few good drinks with my mates ... definitely more than a few good drinks ... to really celebrate! I’m absolutely shocked, I can’t believe it."
Congrats once again to Ben Haenow! He's a terrific X Factor winner, and while I'm not crazy about the single (a cover of a OneRepublic song), I can't wait to hear his full album when it releases. Until then, check out the debut music video for "Something I Need," embedded below:
