Is Beetlejuice 2 on the way? Apparently so, if sources are to be believed.

Director Tim Burton and star Michael Keaton are reportedly in talks to resurrect the Beetlejuice franchise, with a script from Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), who will produce with KatzSmith Productions partner David Katzenberg.

Apparently, Keaton was rumored to have been interested in returning to the iconic role after Warner Bros. announced its decision to move forward with a sequel. However, Burton's involvement is a bit of a surprise given his aversion to sequels. The director hasn't helmed a follow-up to any of his movies since Batman Returns in 1992 which, incidentally, also starred Keaton in the lead.

The director is currently filming his latest movie, Big Eyes, with two-time Academy Award winner Christoph Waltz and four-time nominee Amy Adams. Though he has made no formal commitments to helm the project just yet, Burton has a close relationship with Grahame-Smith from his role as a producer on the adaptation of the author's novel, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

If the project does move forward with Burton, it will likely come after a project Burton has been eyeing for some time, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. No word yet on the release date Warner Bros. is aiming for with the new Beetlejuice movie. Or whether Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter will somehow end up in this too.
