Beauty and the Beast - Season 2 Episode 17 - Extended Video Preview - Arrested
It's been a long, seemingly interminable two months for Beasties everywhere, as Beauty and the Beast has been on what feels like the longest hiatus since Doctor Who took 15 years off between 1989 and 2005. Of course, I'm exaggerating, but the fact of the matter is that it's been pretty dry where BATB news is concerned, as The CW still hasn't made a decision on whether to renew the show or not. Some reports state that it could come down to Beauty and the Beast or The Carrie Diaries getting that coveted third season, although I remain skeptical that The Carrie Diaries would be its main competition, but I'll get to that more after the story below.
Yes, The CW has released an extended preview video for "Arrested," the big return for Beauty and the Beast from its long hiatus. When the show returns on June 2nd, we'll be picking right back up from where we left off, as Vincent (Jay Ryan) is back on the wrong side of the law, and Catherine (Kristin Kreuk) is unwilling to let him go after finally getting him back. The clip also suggests that Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) was behind Vincent's arrest after all, just like everyone theorized. In short, this promises to be an explosive back-half of the season. You can watch the promo in full below:
I've already made my feelings known about why I feel Beauty and the Beast deserves a third season, but The CW is in a unique position right now. I don't think they're looking at their decision in terms of renewing one show vs. renewing another, since they have more than enough pilots for 2014-2015 on the docket that they don't really need to renew anything more than they already have. But I do feel it would behoove the network to give Beauty and the Beast another chance, since it could anchor the otherwise dreary Friday nights. If nothing else, I think Friday would suit the show better than Monday, in much the same way Grimm keeps NBC's Fridays alive. Besides, BATB sells in over 200 markets internationally, and is much closer to reaching the number of episodes necessary for lucrative syndication rights than just about any other show that's still "on the bubble".
I suppose we'll find out soon enough if BATB will manage to pull off a miracle renewal. But suffice it to say, I've got my fingers crossed and my candles lit.
