'Beauty and the Beast' News: New Relationships, VinCat Cliffhanger, Show's Fate

Fans of The CW's Beauty and the Beast have long been waiting for the show to allow Vincent (Jay Ryan) to be a bit more like the guy he was in Season 1, before he lost his memories and drifted into an aggressive streak that has nearly made him unrecognizable to some viewers. Of course, I'm not sure any change this season has caused as much controversy as the decision to have Vincent and Cat (Kristin Kreuk) pursue other romantic possibilities.

So the question remains: how much longer must fans wait to see VinCat reunited on screen? Are these new romantic pairings long-term?

For executive producer Brad Kern, these new relationships are less about creating obstacles to VinCat, and more about helping the characters to discover who they are, independent of each other.

"The design of this part of the season is for Cat and Vincent to grow as individuals," says Kern. "They came together so fast for kismet, epic reasons, but that's not a long-term relationship. You have to figure out who you are separately which is painful, but also comedic and adventurous."

As Kern explains, Cat needs to rethink what she wants out of a relationship, hence why Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) presents such an interesting option, as he's a former Beast actively attempting to right his wrongs from last season.

"You got the perfect guy right there who's handsome, rich, working hard to make his amends, trying to be protective of her. It's hard for a woman who's been dealing with a beast who's made some really bad choices not to look over at the perfect guy that every mother would want their daughter to marry and give him a second look."

Executive producer Jennifer Levin added her thoughts: "[Cat]'s trying. If she's going to move forward in her life then she's going to explore other possibilities for sure. There's no bigger VinCat shipper than me, but I have been won over by Gabe a bit. So I'm not upset because it feels like she deserves it."

Levin and Kern are asking fans to be patient as Vincent attempts to find the balance between his man and beast sides. Of course, this leads to some good news/bad news rumors for VinCat fans...

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

Good News: Vincent's dealings with Tori (Amber Skye Noyes) is rumored to simply be a short-term storyline. That could mean any number of things: maybe Tori dies, maybe Vincent decides he doesn't like being around her and ends things before they can really start, or maybe Tori just up and leaves. Who knows? But it seems like Vincent and Tori aren't intended to be a long-term match. However...

Bad News: The season is supposedly building to a "shocking" VinCat cliffhanger that is meant to propel the series forward. But there's no real guarantee that a Season 3 will ever happen, meaning that the show could end unresolved. So if you love BATB, make sure you watch live, since improved ratings are the only way to make a third season come to fruition. Ultimately, The CW is holding off on deciding the show's fate until May, to see how new shows Star-Crossed and The 100 perform.

Regardless, no matter how hopeless it seems, BATB still has a shot at renewal: the failure of either of the two new shows could mean a last-minute reprieve for BATB, which survived last season against similar odds. It certainly helps that the show is exceedingly popular overseas, meaning increased revenue for the network, even if the show performs poorly in the States. Either way, we'll find out in May if we'll be getting a third season of BATB.

Beauty and the Beast airs Mondays at 9:00 PM ET on The CW. You can find details on other ways to possibly help save the show by clicking here and here.
