The Doctor will be continuing his travels through time and space.

BBC has ordered an eighth season of Doctor Who, one of its most popular series. The renewal was a foregone conclusion, given its 50th Anniversary this year (to say nothing of its enduring popularity since its revival in 2005). Season seven wrapped Saturday with the climactic finale, “The Name of the Doctor.”

In the wake of the announcement, executive producer Steven Moffat is already “plotting a brand new run of adventures for the Doctor.”

On November 23, Doctor Who will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a 3D special starring Matt Smith, Jenna-Louise Coleman, John Hurt, Jemma Redgrave, Joanna Page and former Doctor/companion duo David Tennant and Billie Piper.
