BBC America's 'Copper' Could Return As A Movie

BBC America has cancelled Copper, which aired its series finale last Sunday. However, the show might not be dead just yet.

Deadline reports that Copper could return on the big screen. Co-creator/executive producer Tom Fontana and fellow executive producers Barry Levinson and Tom Kelly are reportedly considering a film version of the series, set in 1860s New York City.

Fontana had apparently done a considerable amount of work outlining the story for a potential third season, and now the co-creator is looking to repurpose the material for a film "examining life in America after the death of Abraham Lincoln and the years of Reconstruction." Copper, a co-creation of Fontana and Will Rokos, followed Irish immigrant cop Kevin Corcoran as he solved crimes in 1860s New York City. Though the series premiered to strong numbers in August 2012, Season 2 lost the momentum of the previous year, leading to the show's cancellation earlier this month.
