BBC America Renews 'Orphan Black' for Season 3
BBC America has renewed one of its most popular programs for a third season.
The network has renewed Orphan Black for Season 3, as the critically-acclaimed sci-fi drama starring Tatiana Maslany has been given the greenlight for 10 more episodes to air in Spring 2015. Production on the new season is scheduled to begin in Toronto in September.
The series has been a breakout smash not only for BBC America, but for star Maslany, who plays close to a dozen characters. In the past year, the star has scored a Golden Globe nomination and recognition from the Critics' Choice TV Awards, TCA Awards and Canadian Screen Awards. In addition to critical acclaim, the show is bringing in record viewers for the network, as the season two finale drew 1.4 million viewers. Along with Doctor Who, Orphan Black is responsible for BBC America's best ratings year ever.
But that's not the only news worth bringing up for the network.
BBC America will air the second season of ITV's amazing drama Broadchurch in 2015, although how that show will even come up with a season two storyline is beyond me. Also, we'll be getting The Last Kingdom, an eight-episode drama based on Bernard Cornwell's best-selling The Saxon Stories novels. It may not be Game of Thrones, exactly, but it promises to be something unmistakably compelling in its own right. In short, the 2014-2015 broadcast season has the potential to be an even bigger year for BBC America than the 2013-2014 season. In both quality and ratings success.
