Barry Sloane Leaving 'Revenge'?

Is Barry Sloane leaving Revenge after this season?

The actor, who plays Aiden Mathis on the ABC Sunday night soap, is testing for roles in several upcoming pilots this fall. According to inside sources, Sloane received permission from both ABC and his Revenge bosses to explore pilot possibilities, as the actor is reportedly on the wishlist of several notable casting directors.

However, Sloane getting cast in a pilot does not mean he'll necessarily be killed off. First, the pilot would have to be picked up to series by a major network, which is no guarantee, considering this is becoming the most crowded pilot season in recent memory, with tons of different series vying for coveted 2014-2015 schedule spots. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, Sloane's contract reportedly has an option to return in Season 4, meaning that while he could be leaving the series, he could still remain with the show in some fashion as a recurring guest star. This is, of course, if the show is actually renewed for a fourth season. In finding a new home for the much-hyped midseason drama Resurrection, ABC has moved Revenge to 10 pm on Sunday nights, which is either a huge vote of confidence for Resurrection, or a lack of faith in Revenge.

Among the offers Sloane is expected to receive in the next few days, the most high-profile is the upcoming Steven Spielberg-produced drama, The Visitors (which would keep him on ABC, as the pilot is being developed for the alphabet network). It remains to be seen if Sloane will take the part, but if his Revenge role is slated to be reduced in the coming weeks, it might not be a bad idea.

Revenge returns from winter break on Sunday, March 9.
