Bachelor In Paradise - Recap: Brooks Was Here
Recap and results for Bachelor In Paradise Episode 6:
Tonight's Bachelor In Paradise promises to be packed with drama. Of course, it'll take a lot to top last week's crazy episode, as Clare quit the show, Jesse ditched Lucy for Christy, Graham and Lacy received medical attention, and Michelle Money was freaked the hell out by Cody's intense declarations of love after just two days! Will tonight bring more insanity to Paradise?
Let's get this show on the road!
AFTER THE ROSE CEREMONY
The contestants are shocked by Jesse's choice at the Rose Ceremony, noting that he doesn't seem to be here for the right reasons. Although I'm not sure there is such a thing as "right reasons" on a show whose sole purpose seems to be to create hookups and drama. Meanwhile, Michelle Money is getting seriously stressed out by Cody telling her he loves her, so she takes him aside and explains that she wants to slow things down, telling him "We need to solidify our friendship" first. At first, it seems like Cody takes it a bit hard, but it's much worse than all that -- he apparently hasn't taken it at all: in a confessional, he says he hopes he gets a date card so he can take Michelle on a date and prove to her how much he loves her. Dude, did you NOT just hear what she said?! Chill the F out on the L word!

TO THE BATCAVE!
Thankfully, Cody doesn't get the date card. It's all Marcus this time (I bet Cody wishes he didn't give Marcus his date card earlier now). Naturally, Marcus takes Lacy on the date, and it involves climbing into a deep, dark hole. And no, it's not as dirty as it sounds. Turns out, their date involves visiting an actual bat cave, which has a pretty sweet body of water for scantily-clad swimming, since all caves in Tulum apparently have water in'em.
The couple explores the cave while Lacy butchers the pronunciation of the word "stalactites" (because "stalaglights" are apparently a thing now). Of course, they're hardly in the cave for very long before bats come swarming out, scaring the hell out of Lacy. But scaring her even more? Telling Marcus that she loves him too, as she's been guarded about her emotions. However, she feels this is the perfect opportunity, since they're overcoming their fears together.
So Lacy finally tells Marcus she's in love with him too, and I feel like the moment you're telling someone you love them and are having that feeling reciprocated, you don't really need to be in Paradise anymore. But I suppose we need a picture of stability to contrast with all this instability in Paradise.
Meanwhile, back at Paradise, Michelle bawls her eyes out to Jesse about how Cody is being really aggressive and persistent in his pursuit of her. She's right in her assessment that while he's a nice guy, he has a fundamental misunderstanding of what she wants. In essence, Cody is making her miserable by putting so much pressure on her. Jesse tells her she isn't in Paradise to be miserable, encouraging her to make a clean break with Cody, although part of me wonders if he's not just trying to get into her pants. Michelle notes that Cody is actually kind of one-dimensional, in that she knows hardly anything about him since he spends all their time together talking about how in love with her he is. She doesn't even know his last name! Jesse says that while Cody is going to take the breakup hard, it's better for Michelle to do it now than to string it out. And, for once, I agree with Jesse.

BROOKS WHEELIN'
Brooks, from Desiree's season of The Bachelorette, comes wheelin' in to Paradise. And just as Sarah was going on about how great things are between she and Robert. Turns out, Brooks is one of the guys she's been hoping would come to Paradise, and she's kind of mad that he's here now, since he's coming at the worst possible time. "I'm freaking out about Brooks," she notes. However, there's a backstory between Brooks and Sarah, as he reveals that he met her at the After the Final Rose special for Juan Pablo's season of The Bachelor. Apparently, they really hit it off, and she's the one in Paradise he's most interested in. So yeah, it's looking like the feeling is mutual, as Sarah outright states she'd be lying if she said she didn't come here with the hope of seeing Brooks again.
However, although Brooks intends to use his date card to ask Sarah out, Robert isn't keen on letting him. He straight up tells Brooks -- half-joking, half-serious -- that if he asks Sarah out, he'll kill him. "That's my bae. She's my bae," Robert says. Of course, Brooks is seriously freaked out by this, as he should be; yet he feels no one should be off-limits in Paradise. Robert talks with Sarah about her history with Brooks, and she admits that she had a crush on him. "You want to kiss his face?" Robert asks, and Sarah admits that there's an attraction there. Sarah is conflicted, but not nearly as conflicted as Brooks. But he decides not to risk incurring Robert's wrath, and asks out Jackie. Jackie happily accepts, leaving Sarah feeling frustrated. On the one hand, she cares about Robert. On the other hand, Brooks is practically the reason she's here, and now he's off with another woman. Ah well, she's going to have to declare for one or the other, sooner rather than later.
So Brooks and Jackie go on their dinner date, and Brooks is absolutely enamored. He says he didn't really have much to go on about Jackie other than that she's "nice and cute," and "really fun to look at." However, he notes that this isn't the first time him and Zack have competed for the same girl, so he expects things might end up being awkward. Jackie feels the same way, as she now suddenly has options. Back at Paradise, Zack is worried about losing Jackie, saying that he feels threatened by the date, but didn't feel like he was in a position to forbid Brooks from asking her out. Back on the date, Jackie and Brooks play foosball, with a kiss on the line. If Brooks wins, he gets to kiss her. If he loses, it's only a kiss on the cheek. It's a brief game since Brooks proves to be terrible at foosball, although the game does draw a crowd. After the date, Jackie and Brooks return to Paradise, and seeing the couple together sets Zack on edge. This is the angriest I've seen him. Seriously, dude never seemed this passionate about Clare, and he was with her way longer than he's been with Jackie (whom he hasn't even been on a date with yet). Perhaps it's simply that he knows Jackie is his only option, since he'll be going if she doesn't give him a rose.

SARAHDISE LOST
Sarah spends an inordinate amount of time ogling Brooks, who proves charming by not only quoting Cast Away but also by singing a few bars from "Mister Cellophane" from Chicago. Sarah is so over-the-moon for Brooks that she feels she has no choice but to break up with Robert, although this proves rather difficult after Robert leaves her a really sweet note to meet him on the beach. They meet up and talk about how their time in Paradise is nearly coming to an end. Robert admits that it's going to be hard to adjust to normal life again once he gets back home. However, he says he still wants to see what this could be between them after the show. Robert tells her he wants to take her on dates "back in the real world," and to be a couple back in Los Angeles. This declaration suddenly changes Sarah's entire opinion, as she now realizes that Robert is the guy for her. So we basically just went from Sarahdise Lost to Sarahdise Regained.
But the same can't be said for Michelle, who finally has her serious talk with Cody. She explains that their relationship is moving too fast, but Cody defends himself by saying he's "a rookie at this," implying that he can do nothing else but say what he feels. She says that while this is "intense and overwhelming," she adores Cody and loves his honesty. "I'm lucky to have you in my life, but I'm scared," she says, explaining that she needs a strong foundation for a relationship to be able to build. Michelle finally feels like she's getting through to Cody, and his confessional suggests he recognizes that his aggressive approach isn't working. However, he notes that he intends to make Michelle fall in love with him, noting that she's "everything," and I'm wondering just how much Cody has learned at all. And Michelle, for that matter, who makes out with Cody anyway (because that won't give him the wrong idea or anything).
SLEAZEBURGER IN PARADISE
So Christy is head over heels for Jesse, claiming he has all the qualities a woman could want in a boyfriend. But her beliefs about Jesse are destroyed by Michelle Money, who reveals to Christy that Jesse has been going around telling everybody they've been doing nasty things together. Christy breaks down, remarking that Jesse is a misogynist and a douchebag. It's so bad that she considers leaving the show. However, she decides to put it "in God's hands" -- and God delivers in the form of Tasos from Andi's season of The Bachelorette.
Christy is immediately attracted to Tasos, and he's attracted as well, using his date card to ask her out. But that's not the only impact he makes, as he says some glowing things about Cody to Michelle Money, prompting her to rethink he iffy stance on him, since these are kind words coming from someone who knows him. But the controversy around Tasos's decision to ask out Christy creates a ripple effect, as Jesse is now worried about his position in Paradise.
The date involves taking a boat through some canals en route to a nice little picnic on a pier. They chat about past relationships, and they seem to really hit it off. Tasos wants to kiss her, but Christy is reluctant since she feels she made a mistake in kissing Jesse too soon. Speaking of which, she spends most of every confessional talking about Jesse, in much the same way she spent her first date with Jesse talking about that ex-boyfriend she doesn't appear to be over. So maybe she isn't exactly over Jesse just yet, no matter how much of a sleazebag he appears to be. That said, she is thankful that Tasos is here, since now she feels there's someone she has a connection with, who's also a genuine gentleman.
LIKE A HAWK
Zack receives a date card, and Graham warns Zack against letting the information get out, since AshLee "will cut someone" once she finds out someone other than Graham got a card. Apparently, she really wants to go on another date with Graham, despite having JUST gone out on a date with him last week. And whaddya know? Graham turns out to be right, as AshLee completely flips out when Zack comes in to the lounge to ask out Jackie, who gladly accepts. AshLee feels Zack doesn't deserve the date card, and argues that she simply wants Graham to have the best possible experience in Paradise. Yet Michelle, in a confessional, notes that it's wrong of AshLee to put all her disappointment on Graham, since she should know by now how Paradise works. There are people who aren't as certain in their connections as AshLee, and those people deserve the chance to explore through the use of date cards. But AshLee doesn't seem to really get this, and continues complaining, although she occasionally throws in a few kind words to Michelle. Naturally, Michelle catches on that AshLee is buttering her up, since Graham values her opinion. But Michelle isn't having it, saying she'll be watching Michelle "like a hawk" from here on out.
Zack and Jackie go on their date...to the same bat cave as Marcus and Lacy, since there are apparently only so many things to do in Tulum (marketplace, ruins, dinner, bat cave). They have a great time though, with Zack noting he's never been this comfortable on a first date ever. He wishes he had more time with Jackie, and tells her he's been thinking about her as someone he could have a connection with before even coming on the show, recalling how he's been drawn to her since first seeing her picture. Jackie doesn't take this creepily though, a) because Zack isn't an ugmo, and b) because Zack's admission makes her feel like this is the first time she hasn't been the "default girl". Um...you do realize Marcus was into you, right? Jackie admits, in a confessional, that she has Brooks in the back of her mind, although she goes from telling Brooks that she doesn't kiss on the first date to making out with Zack on their date, so he must not have made as much of an impression. Then again, she made out with Marquel and ultimately ended up sending him home, so who knows where her head is even at right now?
However, despite an awesome date, Zack is worried about his standing back at Paradise, since he doesn't know how Jackie's date with Brooks went. So he gives her a special wish bracelet: basically, you make a wish, and when the bracelet falls off, your wish comes true. It's kind of corny, but Jackie appears to appreciate it. Brooks isn't ready to give up yet though, tracking Jackie down to follow up on the promise they made to paint each other's nails. Jackie is charmed by this, causing further doubt, because nothing says, "Baby, we can make this work" than finding a guy willing to paint your nails and have his painted in return.

JESSE'S GIRL
Meanwhile, Christy assures Tasos that she likes him more than she likes Jesse. But Jesse isn't intent on letting "Taco" (ugh, what an ass) steal his girl. He notes that he has no intention of actually starting a relationship with "a dumb blonde," but notes that he's having too much fun in Paradise to let himself be eliminated just yet. So he takes her aside and tries to win her back, only for Christy to tell him she doesn't want things to go any further. Jesse says he probably should have tried harder to make her open up to him, but Christy retorts, "Lucy was open." Jesse is offended, and blindsides her by declaring he's going to leave Paradise. Naturally, Christy doesn't buy it for a second, but Jesse actually follows through by announcing to everyone that he's bailing. "I've accomplished everything I wanted to accomplish," he says, and the girls rush over to Christy, believing she just got dumped. But Christy couldn't possibly care less. "This is not the end of this," Jesse declares. "I'm going to see each and every one of you again soon."
Absolutely no one is sad to see Jesse go, neither the women nor the men. Christy doesn't want to play the victim, so Michelle tells her, "So don't." Michelle adds that Christy needs to stand up for all the women in America who've had to put up with men like Jesse. Michelle, Christy, and Lacy all put their hands in and say "Y.O.P.O." (You Only Paradise Once), as Christy decides she can't let Jesse leave without standing up for herself. So she confronts Jesse in the van as he's heading out, revealing that she knows why he's leaving in such "cowardly" fashion. "You knew you weren't going to get a rose. ... You didn't want to look like an idiot, not getting a rose at the ceremony," Christy says. Jesse doesn't get why she's calling him a coward, defending himself by saying he just didn't feel his relationship was progressing with Christy. He adds that while he doesn't want to leave, he did everything he wanted to do in Paradise. Lacy steps in and goes to town on Jesse for spreading rumors and talking trash on the girls he's been out with, saying he's a disrespectful jerk who manipulates people. Michelle then gets her turn, saying that the things he's said about the girls have been cowardly, degrading, and disgusting. "Someone I care about has been deeply hurt by this," she says, and referencing how humiliated and hurt Christy was by Jesse boasting to all the guys about his prowess. Jesse has no response, as Christy feels he just isn't getting it. And that's it for Jesse's time in Paradise.
JESSE quits BACHELOR IN PARADISE!
On the ride away, Jesse insists he'll have 60 emails waiting for him with phone numbers and party invitations. However, back at Paradise, the girls insist that Jesse will die alone, and the guys all agree with what a waste of space Jesse was. Well yeah, NOW. But it would have probably been nice if they'd done something about him earlier, like maybe saying, "Hey, that's not cool, man," when bragging about all the nasty things he'd done with the girls he'd dated. Either way, I'm glad he's gone, although I'd have loved to see him suffer through getting cut at the Rose Ceremony.

THE ROSE CEREMONY
So with Jesse gone, only one guy will be going home, and I'll actually be quite stunned if it's anyone but Brooks, unfortunately (I say "unfortunately" because Brooks seems like a good guy who had the misfortune of coming to Paradise a little too late).
Lacy offers her rose to Marcus (Reaffirming her love for him in the process)
AshLee offers her rose to Graham (Showing no signs of her earlier craziness, which makes her even scarier)
Sarah offers her rose to Robert (Noting she's falling in love with him)
Michelle offers her rose to Cody (Stating she'd be a "fool" to pass up the love he's offering, which is a pretty sharp turnaround)
Christy offers her rose to Tasos (Basically thanking the Lord that he's not Jesse)
Jackie offers her rose to Zack (To the disappointment of Brooks)
And with that...
BROOKS is eliminated from BACHELOR IN PARADISE!
Brooks is disappointed, since he saw a real "glimmer of hope" with Jackie. He feels if he had a little more time there, he might have had a better shot, but he couldn't overcome the connection she'd already formed with Zack. "I wish things would have happened differently," he says, calling this "a missed opportunity for something possibly great."
However, the elimination of Brooks is quickly overshadowed by Chris Harrison revealing that this has been the LAST ROSE CEREMONY OF BACHELOR IN PARADISE! As he hints, everything is about to change now. No more date cards, no more new arrivals, and a twist that could potentially put all the relationships to the test. What's in store? I have no idea, but it's looking like next week will be an absolutely insane finale!
