Bachelor Pad 3 – Episode 3 – Recap

Here's my recap of the third episode of Bachelor Pad's third season.

The Competition

The site of the week's competition is off-campus, and it's a very Big Brother-esque competition, down to the gigantic waste vats of food and punny title.  In "Hot Sludge Fundae," the contestants run through an ice cream sundae-themed  obstacle course/relay race and compete in partners. However, the partners are chosen randomly, which leaves Kalon and Erica Rose together and gives us two great reactions.

Case 1: Sarah hunched over with one hand on her hip and the other on her head, collapsing so hard in laughter that she's struggling to breathe.

Case 2: Kalon saying that Erica might actually be good at this challenge, because "she could probably just eat her way through." LOL

First, the girls wade through a huge pool of ice cream, slide down a hot fudge-covered slide, run through a field of whipped cream, pour five scoops of nuts on their heads, and hop in a nut sack to their male counterparts. The guys then reverse the process, finishing by eating a cherry. Classic.

Jamie gets off to a huge head start, but Ed completely squanders her giant lead… who else? We're left with the absolutely pathetic image of Ed, covered in a crap ton of ice cream toppings, sliding on his stomach down the hot fudge slide. Couldn't help but laugh. He must be hungover or drunk… or both. Or, he's just really terrible at competitions. He and his partner Jamie finish in last.

On the more positive, high-achieving side, Michael and David battle it out at the end… who else? In a photo finish, David takes the leave, so both he and his partner Rachel are safe for the week.

David’s Date

David invites Blakeley, Erica, and Jamie on his date, an adorable prom-themed date in which they all dress up in prom gear and get a private concert. They get to take pictures too, of course, and while David dips Jamie over for their picture together, he kisses her! He has a huge crush on her. She’s not into him at all, but Bachelor Pad contestants do as Bachelor Pad contestants does… she sells herself, leading him on, and crying in front of him to get the rose.

Meanwhile, Blakeley tries to blackmail him into giving her the rose, telling him that he’s not long for this house if he doesn’t give her the rose. She’s kind of evil and really intimidating. David doesn’t bite; he crowns Jamie as his prom queen and the two are off to dance the night away, awkward middle-school style. Hands on the shoulders, hands on the hips, and absolutely no other physical contact.

Rachel’s Date

Rachel invites Nick, Tony, and Michael to her date which takes place in Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. I've been to the one in New york, and it's awesome. There's a sign for the Bachelor Experience, with a wax figure of Chris Harrison standing in the middle. AND THEN HE COMES TO LIFE and makes the four of them flinch. And makes Michael pee his pants.

The four of them are coated with heavy makeup to make them look like wax figures. Fans of The Bachelor franchise are brought in to pose with the “wax figures” of them four, and the four pop out behind them to scare them.

One fan is asked of her opinion of Tony when she’s standing right in front of him, and she responds with, “What’s the nicer word for pathetic?” OUCH!

Nick continues to fly under the radar, with no one paying any attention to him at all throughout his run on the show, and even Rachel calls him out on it. “If there was a challenge tonight, you’d win at standing still… you’re very good at that,” she says. Haha!

Since sparks between Rachel and Michael first started flying at his date last week, it’s understandable that Rachel gives Michael the rose to see what will come of them two. He said that he felt warm fuzzies when he kissed Rachel last week. Is there a romance brewing? Hmm…

Other Drama

Reid wants revenge against Ed for taking Jillian away from him back on their season of The Bachelorette years ago. So, he tries to get everyone to vote Ed off. However, Ed had considered Reid to be a good friend, so he understandably feels completely betrayed. Reid also tries to steal Ed’s partner, Jaclyn, away from him assuming that Ed is voted out that night. Dramaaa! Come on, Reid, you’re better than that.

Jamie gets completely shot down by Chris when she tries to canoodle with him at night, leading to this exchange as he lies sleepy-eyed in his bed.

"Chris."

"Not tonight."

"Why?"

"It's not you, it's me."

So what does that line even mean? Either way, he doesn’t like Jamie or Blakeley anymore and wants to rid himself of both of them.

Cocktail Party/Rose Ceremony

In a close vote, Reid and Donna are voted out. For the third week in a row, Reid’s plans to keep the person he wants in (Paige, Ryan, and Donna), are foiled. Womp womp.
