Babyfathers, Seeing Ghosts, Icelandic Rock & More Weekend Music
Hope everyone is having a good weekend. Sorry I am a bit late with the music this week, but it has been a busy one. Traveling to Manhattan for a show was great fun, but I feel as though I have been catching up ever since. But better late than never, right? So below you will find music either already featured on my blog, Soundtrack to my Day, or will be soon. Hope you enjoy.
26 years after releasing their first hit single, the band Sade - fronted by the beautiful and talented Sade Adu - are still making fantastic music with the latest album, Soldier of Love. Following up the first single, this is Babyfather. Adu is every bit as gorgeous and great to listen to today. For more about Sade's music, check out here, here, and here.
Iceland's Jónsi just released an excellent solo album, Go. His music moves in a different direction than his work in the Icelandic rock band Sigur Rós, more melodic in nature, but still full of layers and textures, as on the single, Go Do. He sings in English as well as Icelandic dialects on Go, adding to the World Music feel. For more about Jónsi, check out here.
Yeasayer was just signed by Cobalt Music, which will handle the international distribution of their music. They are a Brooklyn-based band - Brooklyn seems to be the home to many of the up-and-coming rock bands at the moment - has an interesting way to describe their own music, 'Middle Eastern-psych-snap-gospel'. The latest single is O.N.E. from the Odd Blood album. For more on Yeasayer, check out their official website here.
I was lucky enough to see Christopher Dallman performing in New York City last week at the Rockwood Music Hall. I love this singer/songwriter, and seeing him perform live was glorious. Speaking to him after the show let me know he is every bit as good a person as he seems. This is the video he did for a recent single, Ghosts, from his EP Never Was. The black and white photography allows the textures in the music to take the forefront. For more on Christopher Dallman, check here.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to interview New York-based SIRPAUL recently on my blog. We discussed his past work, as well as his current stuff. That includes the video for Killer, now seen on LOGO and on mtv.com. We also spent some time on his upcoming release, Music And Me, to be available June 1st on iTunes. I was lucky enough to get an advance copy, and it is outta this world. To learn more about SIRPAUL, click here and here.
