Aubrey Plaza To Voice Grumpy Cat in Lifetime Movie
Lifetime is putting together a new, original movie. And no, it has nothing to do with incestuous kids locked in an attic, or Keri Russell getting seduced by Stephen Collins from 7th Heaven. It's a movie about Grumpy Cat, of all things. With a Parks and Recreation star as the voice of the title character.
Yes, Aubrey Plaza will provide the voice of Grumpy Cat in Lifetime’s upcoming, live-action movie, Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever.
The movie, scripted by Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks) and Jeff Morris (The True Memoirs of an International Assassin), tells the story of a lonely cat who becomes grumpy from having to live in a mall pet shop. However, that all changes when a 12-year-old girl named Chrystal discovers she can talk to Grumpy Cat, prompting the kid to rescue the cat from the mall on Christmas Eve.
Yes, this is a movie that is actually happening. Hell, they even got the actual, original Grumpy Cat to play the lead, as Tardar Sauce returns to the role that made her internet famous (which is, I guess, the best kind of famous these days). I'm of two minds with this movie: it could either be a masterpiece of corniness, or a genuinely entertaining little holiday romp. Of course, how it all plays out depends on just how popular Grumpy Cat still is, since I have no bloody idea if this cat is any more popular now than Keyboard Cat (because the internet is basically the domain of the feline).
Either way, I'm strangely excited for this, particularly with Plaza in the title role. She's got a wonderful dead-pan humor that should fit Grumpy Cat's voice pretty well.
We'll find out how this all comes together when Grumpy Cat’s Worst Christmas Ever premieres Saturday, Nov. 29, at 8:00 PM ET/PT on Lifetime.
