Astros vs. White Sox

Warning: Unbeknownst to most, Rickey is indeed a sports fan.

MSNBC has an article of how this year's World Series has four ex-Yankee pitchers. It's just ironic since the Yankees have had horrible pitching for a couple of years now.

Last year when the pressure to win was just got too great in New York, the Yankees traded away Jose Contreras who was brilliant early but started to fade in the middle of the season. The team also let go of "reliable" Andy Pettite to free agency by essentially snubbing him after all the work he had done for the Yankees in the past. Granted that last year these pitchers weren't really that productive (Pettite even had surgery), this year is obviously different. Contreras, who defected from Cuba, was even considered a hero in the tabloids when he pitched his first game.

The other New York story to this series is no other than Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran, who just last year was the breakout star of the Houston Astros. His former team has a real chance of winning this thing, and meanwhile he's stuck in Shea in a very tough division, the NL East. Even if Beltran arguably has revived the spirits of the Mets, you can't help but think the star-crossed Mets have claimed another victim. Beltran had a collision this year that fractured his nose, and now his old team could win it all a year after he leaves.
