ASIA Registry is a SCAM - asiaregistry.com is a FRAUD

By Rickey ·

I'm writing about this because I'm so angry.

AsiaRegistry.com the managers of the new DotAsia (.asia) TLD is a scam and engages in fraud and phishing tactics on their website.

Being the greedy Internet mogul that I am (did I just call myself a mogul?), I thought I could register the mango.asia (my favorite fruit) during the .asia land rush. Big mistake. In the name of fruit. I'm such a fruit.

The scam works like this:

1. Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com) lists ALL domains for .asia (dotasia) as available. (This of course is true since no domain has been allocated yet).

2. Once the unsuspecting idiot (that would be me) thinks that he can register a domain in .asia (dotasia), he then fills out the application form, gives his credit card information to Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com), sees that there's no funny business going on, then clicks submit. (Summary: Rickey clicks away his money.)

3. Now comes the gotcha: On March 12, 2008 when the landrush ends the Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com) will determine the following:

If you are the only person who applied to register the domain, you win the domain outright.

If two more bid on the domain, there is an auction.

Sounds fair right? Wrong.

Sometime between clicking submit and March 12, 2008, the Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com) will charge your credit card. How nice. Under normal circumstances if your credit card is charged, you get what you are paying for -- as in the domain -- but not with this company Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com).

If you are not the sole registrant of a domain and if you don't win the auction, you cannot refund your money. Asia Registry will keep your money as a credit in their company.

I've just been scammed and I'm livid.

I called these crooks in Australia for a refund and they said to read the terms and conditions. Right. Nowhere in the terms and conditions does it say that I am paying for essentially the right to FILL OUT AN APPLICATION.

Already called the credit card company to dispute the charges from these scammers.

Asia Registry (asiaregistry.com) is a scam and engages in fraud. Their deceptive practices just made this blogger mad. Rawr.

I could have bought a nice prize for our Office Pool with that money! Everybody should be angry.

Now I feel better.
