Tim Lambesis, lead singer of the Grammy-nominated heavy metal band As I Lay Dying, stands accused of hiring a hitman to murder his estranged wife.
Lambesis, 32, was arrested Tuesday for suspicion of solicitation after detectives received information last Thursday (May 2) that the frontman had approached someone to kill his wife. The rocker allegedly attempted to pay an undercover detective to commit the crime (because when you're a heavy metal rocker, subtlety probably isn't your strong suit).
Jan Caldwell, a spokeswoman for the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, spoke about the work of law enforcement in foiling the plot. "I heard one of our captains say we prevented a tragedy," says Caldwell.
According to the band's website, they are still scheduled to begin the Killswitch Engage U.S. headline tour at the end of May. I'd expect that schedule to change.
