'Arrow' casts Amy Gumenick as Cupid

Cupid is searching for an Arrow. And she's not going to stop until she gets it.

The CW's Arrow has cast Supernatural alum Amy Gumenick in the role of Carrie Cutter -- the unhinged young woman better known as Cupid -- for Season 3. This means bad news for The Arrow himself, as Cupid is the superhero's super-obsessive No. 1 fan. In the comics, she becomes a supervillain that ultimately opposes Green Arrow, since there are very few opponents on this planet more formidable than a woman scorned.

Cupid is being introduced to the TV series due to Arrow executive producer Andrew Kreisberg's role in creating the character during his time as a writer for the Green Arrow/Black Canary comic book series.

"I always loved the idea of Green Arrow having a crazed fan," says Kreisberg. "When I was writing the comic book, my big goal was to create a villain who would last. Cupid has since appeared in the DC Nation shorts on Cartoon Network, and to have her fight our TV Arrow is so much more than I ever could have hoped for the character."

It's unknown when Cupid will appear in the season, but I'm certain it will be with a ton of fanfare. I can't speak to the positives or negatives of casting Gumenick, but she certainly looks the part, at least (namely, she's gorgeous). This sounds like it could be a potentially fun arc for the new season, as it not only has that pulpy, comic book sensibility, but it also has the potential to turn dark in a hurry, which makes it interesting. And it's a nice bonus to see yet another comic book character added to the fray. Arrow is already delving deeper into comic book lore for Season 3 with appearances by Rila Fukushima as Katana, J.R. Ramirez in the role of Wildcat, and ex-Superman Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/The Atom. All in all, this is shaping up to be a wild third season. October 8th really can't come soon enough.
