Ann Rutherford of Gone With the Wind Dead at 94
Ann Rutherford, the actress best known for her role in Gone With the Wind, died Monday at the age of 94.
Rutherford played Scarlett O'Hara’s younger sister, Carreen, in the classic film.
When the actress appeared at the film’s 50th anniversary celebration in 1989, she spoke about the film's legacy.
"Anyone who had read the book sensed they were into something that would belong to the ages, and everyone was in a frenzy to read the book," Rutherford said.
Film buffs might also remember Rutherford as Mickey Rooney's girlfriend, Polly Benedict, in the Andy Hardy movie series. On television, she played Suzanne Pleshette's mother on The Bob Newhart Show.
Rutherford is survived by her daughter, Gloria, and two grandsons.
