Ann B. Davis, Alice on 'The Brady Bunch', Dead at 88

It's a sad day in the TV world, as Ann B. Davis, the actress who played housekeeper Alice on The Brady Bunch, has died at age 88.

The news was confirmed by her close friend Bishop William Frey, who stated that Davis fell and hit her head Saturday morning in her bathroom, resulting in a subdural hematoma. She never regained consciousness.

Davis played Alice for the duration of the series' run from 1969-1974, in addition to all the Brady TV movies (The Brady Bunch Variety Hour, A Very Brady Christmas, The Brady Girls Get Married, The Brady Brides). She even had a cameo in 1995's The Brady Bunch Movie as a trucker.

In a 2004 interview with the Archive of American Television, Davis explained how she developed Alice as a chracter:

"I made up a background story. I did have a twin sister, so I used that as a basis. ... I cared very much about this family. It was my family. It was close to my family as Alice would ever get. I would have died for any single one of them at any point," she said. "You know, they wrote me such gorgeous things to do, as the intermediary between the kids and the adults, and between the boys and the girls. And they gave me funny things to do."

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Ms. Davis. She was a legend in the TV world and will be missed.
