Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt Marry in France
It's official: Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are now husband and wife! The Oscar winners were married Saturday in the French village of Correns, according to a spokesperson for the couple.
Naturally, the private ceremony was a hush-hush event, attended only by Jolie and Pitt's closest family and friends, since it's not often that two of the biggest stars in the known universe can get hitched without anyone finding out. The nondenominational wedding took place in a small chapel at Provence's Chateau Miraval, which is a stunningly gorgeous, rustic-looking estate straight out of "What I Imagine France Looks Like In My Head".
Prior to the ceremony, Jolie and Pitt obtained a marriage license from a judge in California. This same judge was then, apparently, flown out to France to perform the ceremony, which featured Jolie and Pitt's six children: Jolie was walked down the aisle by her eldest sons Maddox and Pax, while daughters Zahara and Vivienne served as flower girls. Shiloh and Knox, meanwhile, served as ring bearers. So yeah, those are probably going to make for some amazing wedding photos, assuming they didn't hire the world's worst wedding photographer.
Of course, this wedding is the culmination of years of speculation as to when the couple would actually get hitched, especially considering that both had been married before (Jolie to current Elementary star Jonny Lee Miller in the late 90s, followed by a three-year marriage to Billy Bob Thornton; and Pitt to Friends star Jennifer Aniston from 2000-2005). Pitt once claimed he didn't intend to marry until gay marriage was legalized, but the couple has eased off that position in recent years, stating they both intend to wed. The rumors all came to a head in 2012, when Jolie and Pitt were engaged after roughly seven years together. Some two years later, and they're now man and wife. And I'm sure they made for a breathtaking couple.
Congratulations to Jolie and Pitt! To many more years!
