Andrea Faustini sings 'One Moment In Time' on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)
Andrea Faustini sang 'One Moment In Time' on The X Factor UK 2014 Live Show 2 on October 18, 2014.
Pre-performance: Andrea talks about the experience of being in the UK, and all the tastes he's picked up, from tea and milk to fish and chips. He's still in awe that he went from being a student in Rome to singing in front of millions of people on The X Factor. But he's most happy that his parents are here to see it all. We get more footage of them together, and Andrea's relationship with his mother and father is just adorable.
Nick's Thoughts: Andrea sings "One Moment In Time" by Whitney Houston, and it's given a tempo underneath it that is clearly meant to sound like "Stay With Me," in much the same way Jack's version of "Only Girl In the World" had the drum beat from "Sing" underneath it, to make it sound a bit more current. It worked better for Jack then than it works for Andrea now, but Andrea's vocal is so good that the arrangement hardly even matters. I loved this, which is saying a lot since I can't stand this song.
Judges: Louis loved everything about Andrea's performance except his gaudy jacket, which is black with red stars. Cheryl wonders if there's anything Andrea can't sing, and says he's fantastic. Simon says there's no question he stole the show last week, but felt Andrea wasn't nearly as good here. He notes that Andrea pulled too many faces and lost the melody in places. He adds that Andrea felt too "scrunched". When Simon gets booed, he just insists he's trying to help Andrea, since he likes him. He notes that none of the other judges are going to tell him the truth. Louis takes offense to this and insists that they always tell the truth, and Mel B adds that Andrea sings with passion and conviction, going as far as to say that the vocal changes he made to the melody worked. And I agree with her. Simon isn't exactly wrong when he says it wasn't as good as last week, but this was still an outstanding vocal.
