An Afternoon in Flushing Meadows

One of my customers gave me two tickets to the U.S. Open today, and I invited Mario to watch with me. After having brunch at Balthazar's (courtesy of Tita Cris), which according to Mario was a pleasant "adult" meal -- great not only for sustenance but for the ambiance and company as well -- we set off for Flushing on the #7.
We had a great time, specially after seeing the awesome Andre Agassi. Watching him play live, even up there where we were, was so much better than any coverage I've seen on TV. I didn't think it would be different but it was just amazing to see them (well mostly Agassi) hit the ball. Really great stuff.
In the later match we rooted for Lindsay Davenport who defeated error-prone Venus Williams (42 unforced errors -- yikes). The last point was really great as it shifted from break point to match point to deuce about five times. And then of course, I get a phone call right at worst possible moment, and as I take my phone to turn it off, Lindsay just won. Uggh.

By the end of the afternoon we were drained. I bought a giant tennis ball for $40 (mouth open) and we took a quick look at some of the sights in Corona Park, which consisted of a lot of Mexicans playing soccer, and this big globe thing... (note to Mexicans: Do not leave your used diapers on the ground, throw them in the trash!)
