America's Next Top Model - Cycle 20 Episode 7 - Recap & Results - The Girl Who's Scared of Clowns
We're back on The CW this week with another episode of everyone's favorite reality competition show, America's Next Top Model. Tyra Banks gives us two easy challenges, almost like a soft lob to make up for how insane the past few episodes have been. Unfortunately, there's a surprise waiting for the models when judgement day arrives!
After his win last week, Cory gets the Tyra suite, and he picks almost-eliminated Jiana to share it with him. Phil keeps hitting on Jiana like a friggin' tool, ugh. She's kinda done with Phil, which is great because he's gross. Cory says he wants to make a map of who is trying to hook up with whom, and calls out Jeremy with his Jourdan crush (which Jeremy denies). The boys fire the first shot in a prank war by taping all the panties to the ceiling while the girls are in the shower. The girls don't get a chance to prank back, and the next day, the boys fill the girl dorm with clown dolls. Surprise, Kanani has a crippling fear of clowns! She damn near has a nervous breakdown on the spot, while the boys flee laughing.
Today's challenge is for the models to split into teams and coordinate an entire photoshoot from top to bottom. This means choosing wardrobe, makeup, scenarios. All of it. They've got to shoot it themselves, do the Flixel stuff (that weirdo GIF thing, remember?), and be sure to do "random acts of modeling" (a thing where they're doing everyday activities during the photos).
Nina, Don, Jeremy, and Marvin seem to have the least amount of difficulty working together. The other strong team is Kanani, Jourdan, and Renee, who you'll remember as mortal enemies for all time from last week. The other team (Cory, Phil, Chris, and Jiana) did terribly. They couldn't work together well, and ended up taking home the lowest scores. Back at the house, Chris starts inventing fights over it all like a total wad. He even upsets Nina, who is the only person in the house that doesn't totally hate him yet.
Today's photoshoot is solo posing, finally, to show off nail polish and fake nails. Each photo is vaguely themed on some aspect of the show. It's... kind of a stretch. They're being shot by eccentric weirdo Franco Lacosta. Nina has some difficulty during the shoot because of the earlier fight with Chris. Chris also does a good job, thankfully. I hate that guy. Jeremy is distracted by his stupid crush on Jourdan and also does a bad job, which is also good because I hate him too. Jeremy sucks. Marvin and Renee do a good job. Jourdan nails it again of course, which sucks because she's a whiny baby bully jerk and I don't like her!
The models get back to the house after the photoshoot to learn that two of them will be going home this episode! Cory gets top scores on his photo, a 10 and two 9s. Don does mid-high, Kanani gets super mixed scores despite receiving plenty of praise (9, 5, and 5!), and Jourdan gets a high rating. Phil gets trashed, but still doesn't get scored below a 7. Nina is scored mid-range. The judges love Chris's photo, but his social media score is trash (probably because he is mean and bad). Marvin scores as high as Cory, with his highest social media score yet piled on top of that.
Best photo this week goes to Jourdan (blah), followed by Marvin (okay) and Cory (hooray!); the bottom three are Jeremy, Kanani, and Phil. Jeremy is here because he has plateaued. Phil ends up low because his personality doesn't translate into his photos. Kanani... well, I'm not sure why she's there. Tyra doesn't really give a real reason. The one of these three who stays is Phil. As soon as it's announced, Kanani collapses into tears, and rightfully so. Kanani is a much stronger model than Phil, and a much better person on top of that. Gah, this is a bad choice!
This week was a good episode, but made a lot of promises I expected to be followed up on. I thought we'd get a full-on prank war, and some more boys versus girls house squabbling. I expected the challenge to be more... challenging. I wanted the photoshoot to be crueler! These are the things this show usually gives us. This is a program that, normally, shows us a bunch of snobby models being driven to the edge of sanity by powerful overlord Tyra and her arsenal of ludicrous challenges and photo themes. Hopefully, next week will amp it back up! You can check back here to see, and watch a preview for this episode below!
