America's Got Talent 9 Results for 09/03/2014 (Recap + Video)

Welcome to the live blog and recap of America's Got Talent 2014, "Semi Final Results 2" on Wednesday, September 3, 2014! Last night's show was INSANE, as just about everyone brought their A-game. I have absolutely no idea how these results will play out, since I can think of at LEAST eight acts that could conceivably go through. But only six will advance to the finals, with two of those six acts having earned a LIVE SAVE by America via the Snapple Save. Should be an exciting show.

As a reminder, here are the 12 performers vying for the 6 spots tonight (click on their name to see a list of their performances, including their performance from last night):

AcroArmy
Emil and Dariel
Smoothini
Blue Journey
Kelli Glover
Baila Conmigo
Wendy Liebman
Jaycob Curlee
Mat Franco
Quintavious Johnson
Jonah Smith
Christian Stoinev

Which six acts do you predict to advance? Are they the same as the six acts you WANT to advance? Let us know who your six are in the comments! And keep it locked right here, as I'll be updating with my live, running commentary and the results!

Let's get this show on the road!

RECAP

-We get a brief video opening which recaps last night's show, as we're reminded that, yes, last night's show really was something else. Seriously sensational. We then get our introductions before going right into our guest musical act...

MAROON 5 opens the show!

-Is it just me, or is Adam Levine an insanely underrated singer? The band performs "Maps", and while it's a song that doesn't really do a whole lot for me on the radio, the group just sounds amazing here. I mean, I never got the hate for Maroon 5, but I never really loved them either. But this was enough to make me reconsider them altogether. I loved this, particularly Adam's vocals. That dude can SING. It's not really news, but I just feel like it needs to be said every now and then.

-We follow this up with a full recap video of last night's show, with backstage comments. Wendy Liebman hopes she didn't get lipstick on her teeth, and you know, I never noticed but her teeth are kind of amazing. She could be in whitening strip commercials. Also of note, Heidi lets Christian Stoinev know how much her kids love him and Scooby, while Smoothini feels threatened by how awesome Mat Franco was, as he now feels he has to really step up his act. Emil and Dariel gush about the judges' comments, saying it was an honor to perform. The dancers of Blue Journey hope they've done enough to get to the next round, while Quintavious Johnson feels he needs to deliver a lot of soul and energy to get to the finals. He gets a call from his grandmother after the performance, and she's ecstatic about his vocal, saying he brought down the house. We follow this up with a skit where Mel B can't vote before Howie hid her phone, mimicking Mat Franco's act. Turns out it's inside her judges' chair back in the studio. Or at least it's implied, but since it's all scripted anyway, it doesn't really matter. Still, it's kind of a cute little segment.

RESULTS, PT. 1

-Nick reveals the three acts at risk for elimination, and who will vie for the Snapple Save. The three acts are...

Blue Journey
Christian Stoinev
Smoothini (drawing an audible "WHAAT?!" from a lady in the crowd)

Howie says that America has a tough decision ahead, since the bar has been set so high by last night's performances. He pleads with America to vote, since the nation has never had this amount of control in saving someone before, although I'd argue they get pretty much the same amount of control each week, honestly. This is just a real-time version of the same voting we do every week.

Anyway, here's how you can save your favorite act...

-We then get a clip of the Reddi-Whip After Party, but it ends in what feels like twenty seconds. It was probably longer, but I'm not sure you could pay me enough to care about these fluff pieces. Although I do enjoy some Reddi-Whip, on occasion.

RESULTS, PT. 2

-Nick calls two dance acts forward: AcroArmy and Baila Conmigo. One of these two acts will advance. The result...

ACROARMY advances to the Finals!

BAILA CONMIGO is eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

Howard feels America got this one right, as AcroArmy managed to remain absolutely perfect while other acts have cracked under the pressure. He welcomes them to the finals.

I'm going to miss Baila Conmigo quite a bit, but of the two acts, this was the right call. So yeah, good on you, America.

-Back from break with an actually funny skit, in which we detail the fashion feud between Heidi and Mel B, as Mel B can't stand how good Heidi looks in everything she wears, while Heidi can't stand Mel B's determination to upstage her. This leads to a "glam off," as the two women put on their best finery to outdo the other. They encounter one another backstage, and continually go through costume changes after seeing the other's outfit, leading to this amusing exchange...

Mel B: "Orange is SO Season 8!"
Heidi: "Well pink is making me NAUSEOUS!"

They get into a catfight that gets broken up in a hurry, since it's time for the show. I actually really enjoyed this, believe it or not. Mel B and Heidi are great. This is my favorite panel in all nine seasons.

RESULTS, PT. 3

-Nick calls Wendy Liebman, Kelli Glover, and Emil and Dariel to the stage. Only one act will go through...

EMIL AND DARIEL advance to the finals!

WENDY LIEBMAN and KELLI GLOVER are eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Emil and Dariel thank America, saying they feel blessed to be here. Howie, meanwhile, congratulates them on advancing, noting that they're living their grandfather's passion. Echoing Howard's words to AcroArmy earlier, he welcomes them to the finals.

I would have liked to see Wendy Liebman go through, but I don't really have a problem with this result at all. Emil and Dariel are likable guys with real talent. Hopefully, they bring something more unique next week than they did last night.

-Back from break with another amusing sketch, as Mel B is the one going undercover now, pretending to be a psychic. However, unbeknownst to her unsuspecting clients, Howie is feeding her information about each person through an earpiece. It's silly, as Mel B grabs the heads of her clients, or has them lay across the table, all while wearing this gaudy (but strangely hot) mystic outfit. The show is two-for-two on comedy segments this week.

RESULTS, PT. 4

-Nick calls the next two acts forward: it's Jonah Smith and Mat Franco. Only one will advance. The result...

MAT FRANCO advances to the Finals!

JONAH SMITH is eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Mat is overwhelmed, and says it's unbelievable to see people respond to his magic like this. "Beyond my craziest dreams!" he exclaims. Mel B tells Mat he's a very talented magician who captivates the audience. "It helps that you're pretty cute, to top it all off!" she adds. Between the two acts, I feel like this was 100% the right call, although I did like Jonah Smith.

But we have no real time to mourn Jonah Smith before we get to our next result, as Nick calls Quintavious Johnson and Jaycob Curlee to the stage...

QUINTAVIOUS JOHNSON advances to the Finals!

JAYCOB CURLEE is eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Quintavious expresses his joy at getting through by letting out a scream that borders on a squeal. Heidi expresses her own excitement by echoing his scream, adding that Quintavious deserves this. She wishes him luck in the next round. Yeah, I'll be shocked if this competition comes down to anyone else but Emily West and Quintavious Johnson.

RESULTS, PT. 5

-So we're back from break with the Snapple Save results. Nick calls the three acts forward. One of Smoothini, Christian Stoinev, and Blue Journey will advance, while the other two will have their fate decided by the judges. The result...

BLUE JOURNEY advances to the Finals!

This is a wonderful result, in my opinion. Blue Journey is practically shaking, they're so excited. Of course, the results aren't over yet, as the judges must now decide between Christian Stoinev and Smoothini. I'd put through Smoothini, but I could see the argument for Christian Stoinev, since there are plenty of magicians in the competition still, but no animal acts remaining. Then again, Smoothini is a more dynamic act, so it's kind of a tough call.

FINAL RESULTS

-The judges have made their decisions:

Mel B felt that Christian's act last night focused too much on Scooby, although she does like the act. Meanwhile, she notes that although Smoothini's act is kind of small, it's quite impressive up close. She wishes she could put through both acts, but since she could only put one through...

Mel B votes for Christian Stoinev!

Howard feels Christian blew it last night with a lazy act, saying he used to be a frontrunner but let the dog take center stage. Similarly, he still feels Smoothini's act is too small. So he's going for the more dynamic act...

Howard votes for Christian Stoinev!

Howie says that Smoothini's act was small, but that's not always a bad thing. However, tonight, size does matter. So he's putting through Christian.

Howie votes for Christian Stoinev!

CHRISTIAN STOINEV advances to the finals!

SMOOTHINI is eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Christian is overwhelmed, of course. But happy.

This was kind of a surprising result to me, actually. I figured Smoothini would at least get some votes, if not all of them. I really didn't think they'd all go for Christian. Maybe Heidi would have chosen Smoothini, but given that her kids love Christian and Scooby, I doubt it. Either way, I'm not upset with the choice, as I love Christian's act. But he really needs to bring something special next week, and considering he has less time to come up with a new routine than he did from quarter finals to semi finals, I'm not optimistic about his chances. But I'm looking forward to seeing him try.

To recap, the six acts going through to the finals are...

AcroArmy
Emil and Dariel
Quintavious Johnson
Mat Franco
Blue Journey (America's Save)
Christian Stoinev (Judges' Save)

So next week will be the first round of the finals and will feature performances from the Top 12 acts of Season 9.

The Top 12 are...

Mike Super
Sons of Serendip
Emily West
Miguel Dakota
Mara Justine
David & Leeman
AcroArmy
Emil and Dariel
Quintavious Johnson
Mat Franco
Blue Journey
Christian Stoinev

That's a damn strong lineup, but I think it'll be tough for anyone to upend the singers. Should be interesting to see the other acts try though.

So what do you think of the results? Did the right acts go through? If not, which acts would you have put through? And which acts are you most excited to see next week? We're entering the home stretch of America's Got Talent Season 9, so join us next week for part 1 of the Finals!

Thanks for joining me tonight!

GOODNIGHT!
