America's Got Talent Results for 07/30/2014 (Recap + Video)

Welcome to the live blog and recap of America's Got Talent 2014, "Quarter Final Results #1"! Last night's show was a pretty stellar bit of business all-around, as at least six acts delivered in a big way (in my opinion, anyway. I thought Emily West, Julia Goodwin, Miguel Dakota, Valo & Bobby, Baila Conmigo, and Dan Naturman were fantastic). However, only five acts can advance to the next round. So which of the twelve acts will it be?

The 12 performers vying for the 5 spots tonight are as follows (click on their name to watch their performance from last night):

Miguel Dakota, Flight Crew Jump Rope, Julia Goodwin, Jasmine Flowers, Emily West, Dan Naturman, The Willis Clan, Sean and Luke, Baila Conmigo, JD Anderson, Valo & Bobby, and David and Leeman are all in the running! Let us know which five you think it'll be (and which five you WANT it to be)!

Oh yeah, and Enrique Iglesias performs live. It's the live results for America's Got Talent!

RECAP

-Well, apparently I'm a moron who didn't realize the recap show starts at 8, but the results don't start until 9, meaning this post is an hour early. But whatever, let's call this the Official Predictions Post! Take the next hour to add your predictions on who's going through to the next round! My picks are...

Miguel Dakota
Emily West
David and Leeman
Baila Conmigo
Dan Naturman

Who do you got?

RECAP: FOR REAL, THIS TIME

-So we're now live, and despite having just aired a one-hour recap show, we still get a five-minute recap to kick things off after the judges' introductions. Interspersed are some backstage comments, such as Miguel Dakota noting what a great singer Julia Goodman is, while Howard states that she's a good singer but not a great singer. Howard is titillated by Heidi's book, which was used for David and Leeman's act last night. Howie, meanwhile, seems more focused on getting people to enjoy his book, going as far as to offer to read excerpts. Dan Naturman fears this is all some wonderful dream, and he's going to wake up and be told it's time for his performance at Radio City Music Hall...and he's going to go perform, but bomb in the process. Meanwhile, Miguel Dakota recognizes that there are only five spots, but he's hoping he did enough to get through.

This all ends with a clip of Howie and Heidi rolling on the floor together in celebration of a great night of performances. Well...I can't blame a guy. We come back with Howie saying he'd be willing to roll around with anyone who wanted to, since he doesn't shake hands. Heidi tells Howie she loves him and insists it's all innocent fun, and Howie sneaks in a double entendre by saying they had a "happy ending." Oh, Howie. Never change. Except do.

RESULTS, PT. 1

-Nick calls Jasmine Flowers, Emily West, and Valo & Bobby to the stage. Time to find out the first act going through to the semifinals...

EMILY WEST advances to the semifinals!

JASMINE FLOWERS and VALO & BOBBY have been eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Emily lets out an adorable squeal of excitement when interviewed, saying that a person dreams about making these kinds of speeches. She thanks everyone for their support. Nick then asks Howard if he stands by his statement about Emily being the best singer he's seen on the show. He does, and adds that he spent all day singing "Chandelier" because of her. Heidi congratulates Emily and tells her to keep doing exactly what she's been doing.

-Back from break with Nick interviewing some of the remaining finalists in the green room backstage. JD talks about getting injured and losing a little bit of feeling in his arm, but states he's just happy to be here. Dan Naturman is also pretty stoked to still be in the running, because why wouldn't he be?

HOWIE IN HOLLYWOOD

-Nick introduces a video package that shows Howie giving the other three judges a tour of Hollywood during the city auditions. He calls it the "Howiewood" tour, and it includes an alleyway, John Travolta's house, Howie's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a soundtrack set to the incidental music from It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia. This was kind of a strange choice for filler. It's not good or bad or anything. It's just...there.

-Nick asks Howard what he thought about the tour, and he says he made out with Howie last year, so he's still going to love him this year, even though Howie is as annoying as ever. Mel B calls Howie out for being so annoying, before Howard cuts in to remind everybody that he picked out Mel B and Heidi's outfits for tonight. We then throw to a preview of Heidi's appearance on The Tonight Show tonight, where she and Jimmy Fallon do rolls together. It's exactly what it sounds like.

ENRIQUE IGLESIAS FEATURING SEAN PAUL

-Sean Paul?! Holy hell, talk about a blast from the past! Enrique is performing his latest single, "Bailando," not to be confused with "Bailamos" from the Wild Wild West soundtrack (which I owned, actually, because my taste in music as a teen resulted in several ill-advised film soundtrack purchases).

-Given how often they're repeating the phrase "Contigo" ("with you") in the chorus, I find myself wondering why this song is called "Bailando". That said, this is the most I've liked an Enrique Iglesias song since the two-week period before "Hero" became the most overplayed song in the history of radio. But this? I could totally listen to this several more times, and enjoy it. And I mean that completely without irony.

-After the performance, Enrique talks about how great it is to be back in Radio City Music Hall, before Nick plugs Enrique's new album (Sex and Love) and his upcoming tour, which starts in September. Am I the only one who kind of misses the mole?

RESULTS, PT. 2

-Nick calls Dan Naturman, The Willis Clan, and Sean and Luke to the stage. He reveals that only one of these acts will be going through, which surprises Mel B, since she believes two of these acts deserve to go through. (Based on her judging comments last night, those acts are probably Dan Naturman and Sean and Luke) That said, Mel B stresses how happy she is that the decision isn't in her hands. Onto the result...

DAN NATURMAN advances to the semifinals!

THE WILLIS CLAN and SEAN AND LUKE have been eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Dan is thrilled to advance, and says that while he's usually an understated guy, he can't help but let out a big "WOO"! Howie calls Dan the next Woody Allen, and not because he thinks Dan is going to sleep with his stepdaughter. Dan, perplexed, says "I thought I was Jon Lovitz!" Love this guy.

-We keep rolling with the results, as Julia Goodwin, JD Anderson, and Miguel Dakota are called up to the stage next. We get right to the result...

MIGUEL DAKOTA advances to the semifinals!

JULIA GOODWIN and JD ANDERSON have been eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-Miguel delivers the classiest speech of the competition so far, saying what an honor it's been to be onstage with the other 11 acts, and what an honor it is to be moving forward. Heidi congratulates Miguel but says she agrees with Howard's critique last night, telling Miguel that his vocals need to be stronger next time. Well, that was kind of random.

-Back from break with Nick revealing that the search for the 48th contestant in the Top 48 has been narrowed down to 3 as a result of submissions to The Today Show. There's a bhangra dance team, a group of kids who build domino rallies, and a tumbling group from Wilmington. The winners are announced by Matt Lauer and Savannah Guthrie, who appear live onstage to read the results. The result for the 48th and final act in the America's Got Talent Top 48 is as follows...

CORNELL BHANGRA advances to the semifinals!

-Their exuberant celebration (taped earlier) is pretty fantastic, especially since they're doing it in their elaborate bangra outfits.

FINAL RESULTS

-Nick brings out Baila Conmigo, David and Leeman, and Flight Crew Jump Rope to determine who will be the final acts to advance to the semifinals....

DAVID AND LEEMAN advance to the semifinals!

-It now comes down to Baila Conmigo and Flight Crew Jump Rope, and the decision is now in the hands of the judges. If it were up to me, I'd put through Baila Conmigo, although I could see them putting through Flight Crew Jump Rope simply because there's no other act in the competition like them.

-Back from break with the final results, as the judges have made their decision. We get one last recap of both Baila Conmigo and Flight Crew Jump Rope's respective performances before the judges lead off with their decisions (of note, not a single one of them can correctly pronounce "Baila Conmigo" or recall the name of "Flight Crew Jump Rope," just calling them different variations on "the jump rope crew").

Heidi Klum votes for Baila Conmigo
Mel B votes for Flight Crew Jump Rope
Howie Mandell votes for Baila Conmigo
Howard Stern votes for Baila Conmigo

BAILA CONMIGO advances to the semifinals!

FLIGHT CREW JUMP ROPE is eliminated from AMERICA'S GOT TALENT 2014!

-So what did you think of the results? Sound off in the comments! And we'll be back next Tuesday and Wednesday as another group of acts competes to make the semifinals! Those acts that will take the stage next week are...

Jaycob Curlee
Aerial Animation
Livy
Matt and Sammy
Mat Franco
John & Andrew
Loop Rawlins
Andrey Moraru
Darik Santos
Acte II
Juan Carlos
Hart Dance Team
