American Idol XIII is bringing back two of its best-loved alumni for 2014.

Chris Daughtry and Adam Lambert will return to the series as mentors for the newest phase of the show: Randy Jackson's Boot Camp.

Daughtry revealed the news on Twitter:

According to the rocker, the "Boot Camp" phase is a two-day workshop that is intended to allow America "to get to know the contestants before they vote for the first time". The two-day special is scheduled to air on February 18 and 19.

I'm all for anything that allows us a means for getting to know these contestants more. It's been a huge problem in recent seasons, as contestants remain relative ciphers throughout most of the competition. With this, we might actually get some idea of who these people are before we're asked to pick up our phones. I could still do without Randy Jackson, but if this is the trade-off, I suppose there are worse compromises this show could make than bringing him back.
