'American Idol' Trimmed to One Night Only for Season 14

American Idol XIV will air one night a week starting in the Top 10 round, as FOX is getting rid of the stand alone results show.

Ryan Seacrest revealed the bombshell last Friday to The Hollywood Reporter on the iHeartRadio red carpet in NYC.

He said:

"[It will be] one night when we get to the final stage, the Top 10, there will be one night of performances and results all in one night. So there won’t be a ‘wait ‘til tomorrow night.’ There won’t be a ‘Coming up, coming up, coming up.’ We are going to put it all into one format in one night. So that will be exciting."

American Idol just copied So You Think You Can Dance which copied Dancing with the Stars which copied America's Best Dance Crew with the single night performance and results show.

If this was such a great idea, they should have done it years ago. Obviously it's because the results show ratings have fallen off the cliff over the last two years. They even trimmed the show to 30 minutes last year but apparently FOX thinks that's not even a good idea.

Is this the end?

American Idol premieres on January 7, 2015 on FOX.
