Let's get this show on the road!

RECAP

-Ryan kicks things off by promising a massive, shocking, unprecedented twist -- a "gamechanger" that has never happened on Idol before, and which none of the contestants will have seen coming. Apparently, it involves the remaining Idols having to make an incredibly difficult decision, although Ryan doesn't get into it beyond that. Interesting.

-After the judges come out, Ryan asks Harry what he thinks of this Top 5. Harry decides to take a moment to talk about the Top 5, and to applaud them for how far they've come, and how hard they've worked to get here, performing in the Top 5 of "the largest stage the music business has to offer." He tells the contestants he's proud of them, and that they've all done an amazing job. This was kind of poignant, actually.

ROUNDTABLE RECAP

-Alex is honored that Keith stood up for him, since no one has ever stood up for him before. Sam says the same. The contestants then gab about Zooey Deschanel and Ariana Grande, with Sam getting asked if he got her number. Then, in case you had any doubts as to whether this was all scripted or not, Alex notes that the vote is going to be incredibly close, so they should probably get voting -- at which point, they all whip out their phones, in sync. Honestly though, it was kind of cute. And there were other nice little moments in here, such as Caleb answering if it hurts when his voice goes high by...well, doing his highest-pitched rock scream, but in an endearingly casual fashion, like it's no big deal. He then stops on cue. Dude is really talented.

-After break, we get a Ford commercial in which the contestants all get together for a party. This one is shorter than most, although it has Alex and the other contestants vowing they've made lifelong friendships out of this competition.

KEITH URBAN

-And now, it's time for Keith Urban to perform. He gets a lovely intro from J-Lo, who calls it an honor to sit alongside him every week. Then Harry declares Keith "The Man, The Myth, The Legend" in his intro. I give this panel a hard time, but at the very least, they do seem to genuinely like one another, which is more than could be said for last year's panel.

-Keith performs his new single, "Good Thing". And I don't think Keith gets enough credit for being not just a solid country vocalist, but a great guitarist. The dude can shred when the moment calls for it. His skill at performing makes me think he could be a crossover star if he ever decide to branch out beyond country music. But I think country isn't just his wheelhouse, but his passion. So it wouldn't surprise me to learn he wanted to remain in that genre. The song is a bit forgettable, but it was a damn solid performance.

-Funny moment, as Harry tries to whistle for Keith after the performance ends, and just can't manage it with his fingers. (Or maybe he did, not that we'd have heard)

-And the first ad after we got to break is a Dolce & Gabbana commercial, which...yeah, talk about strange timing.

RANDY'S REACTIONS

-Randy says that everyone is trying to win this. He says Jena had an amazing night, and that she "killed it." Randy says he was proud of Alex, that he really delivered, and he was in it "from jump to end." He then says that while Jessica has a strong voice, he wasn't feeling her that much. Randy then says Sam had "an interesting night," as "How to Save A Life" got better as it went on. Last, Randy says Caleb tore the roof off the place, and that the competition is really on fire.

RESULTS

-Time to learn what the twist is: The Idols can either choose to send home the person with the lowest number of votes, or they can choose to send no one home. If they choose to send no one home, then TWO singers will go home next week. The catch, however, is that the vote between the five Idols must be unanimous. What a completely random twist, especially this close to the end.

-Ryan hands out voting cards as the Idols get to speculating. I guess this is why the Ford video and the Roundtable Recap emphasized the friendships between these five so much. Ryan even poses it as a choice between sending home one of their own, or keeping the group together for one more week. So, so strange.

FINAL RESULT

-And so we're back with the decision. Ryan dims the lights: "Yes" means no one goes home, "No" means someone leaves.

-One vote for Yes. Two votes for Yes. Three votes for Yes. The fourth and fifth votes, however, are a No. Since the vote had to be unanimous, someone must now go home. And since the vote is anonymous, we don't know who the deciding No votes were.

-And so it's time to find out who's going home....

SAM WOOLF is eliminated from American Idol 2014!

-After he's eliminated, Sam sings "It's Time" and the judges (all three) give him a respectful standing ovation. The other contestants come onstage and embrace him, and while talking with Randy, Sam actually smiles. Didn't think he had it in him.

Final Results & Elimination (Top 5) - American... by IdolxMuzic

-I'm genuinely curious as to who the No votes were. I'm also curious as to whom the bottom 2 were, since we were only told who was leaving the competition. Who do you think the No votes were? And was this the right result? Sound off in the comments! Until next week, thanks for hanging out!

GOODNIGHT

Update: Jena Irene and Alex Preston voted 'No' and eliminated Sam Woolf
