Let's get this show on the road!
RECAP
-With Ryan's intro out of the way, we bring out the judges, and J-Lo is wearing a classy red ensemble. She's stepping up her fashion game, for sure. We go straight into the post-show dinner video from last night...
-Caleb feels this was the hardest week they've had so far, and notes the crazy effects everyone had with their performances, including pyro and crazy lighting. He notes that Keith was scared out of his mind when he sang to him. Jena, meanwhile, notes that her favorite part of the show was when J-Lo got up onstage after her performance and totally outdid her in the "walking in heels" department. Jessica can't believe J-Lo actually kissed her, prompting Jena to joke that a ton of boys at her school are probably going to be so jealous. Alex talks about what it would mean to make hometown visits, while Jena doesn't even want to think about having to say goodbye to anybody, which is a bit ironic after last week. Jessica says she loves them all, and that they all did a great job.
RESULTS, PT. 1
-Before Ryan even started saying "The first person going through to Hometown Visits is...," I just knew he'd finish the sentence with "...gonna find out, AFTER THE BREAK!" Because this is what happens when we get to results this early. Still, knowing it was coming didn't make it any less annoying.
-We come back from break with the Ford video, for some reason, as Alex and Jessica go to a guitar shop while Caleb and Jena go to a record store. They talk about discovering new things about each other, and most of the scenes are pastoral images of the gang hanging out. It's kind of cute, actually, and far less over-scripted than the dinner conversations, to the point where they just seem like normal people, as opposed to contestants being tossed into the Idol machine.
-We get more non-results, as Ryan gives Harry a platter reminding him of home. It's basically fried dough from Louisiana...which Harry starts throwing into the crowd, because this is what Harry does now.
RANDY'S REACTIONS
-Randy calls Jena's performance of "Can't Help Falling In Love" one of the best performance in Idol history (I dunno about THAT), while adding that Caleb had a great night, and really came into his own. Of Jessica, he says that she had a really mixed night, but finished strong with "You and I". As for Alex, Randy declares that he had a good night, and says "Yellow" was the money. If he stays around, the Coldplay song will be why, in Randy's opinion.
RESULTS, PT. 1 -- FOR REAL THIS TIME
-We throw to the video screen to find out the first person going to home visits...
JENA IRENE advances to the Top 3!
-Caleb seems especially excited for her.
-Back from break with a more fluff and filler, as the Idols go on a pizza picnic. They talk about how long it's been since they've been home, and how much they look forward to possibly going to hometown visits. Caleb, Jessica, and Jena talk about getting really emotional if they make it, while Alex notes he's incredibly thankful for how far he's made it.
RESULTS, PT. 2
-We look up to the video screen to find out the next person going on hometown visits...
CALEB JOHNSON advances to the Top 3!
-So it's down to Alex and Jessica, although they aren't announced as the bottom 2, since I don't think we're announcing the bottom vote-getters any more beyond simply announcing who had the fewest votes. As much as I love Alex, I would find it glibly amusing if the season with the most guys with guitars ends up with a top 3 that features none of them.
-Back from break with a video announcing the audition cities for Season 14, and a plug to go to AmericanIdol.com to find out about the ten city audition bus tour. No talk of an audition twist though.
FINAL RESULT
-Ryan announces the final result...
ALEX PRESTON advances to the Top 3!
JESSICA MEUSE is eliminated from American Idol 2014!
-Aw man, Jessica is getting REALLY emotional, and now I just feel awful for her. Was not expecting her to get this emotional at all. Her version of "Breakaway" for her farewell video has me thinking she'll be a very good recording artist in the future, as it sounds like a completely different vocalist from the hit-or-miss contestant we got at the live shows. I still like Jessica though, and look forward to hearing her album.
-She sings "Blue-Eyed Lie" as her farewell song, and I think the uptempo, angry nature of the song keeps her from losing it onstage. Her emotions compromise the vocal, but she doesn't pull an Angie Miller-style breakdown. And she earns the respect of all three judges with a standing ovation. Although the other three finalists awkwardly stand around her as she cries over the credits, as if waiting for Ryan to sign off before going to hug her. Once she hugs Jena, Jessica just abandons all pretense of keeping it together, as she basically breaks down. And I don't blame her. She was a stone's throw away from Top 3, so this has to be a heartbreaker.
Final Results & Elimination (Top 4) - American... by IdolxMuzic
-What did you think of the result tonight? Did the right act go home? If not, whom would you have liked to have seen go home? And who do you think would have been in the bottom 2 with Jessica if a bottom 2 had been announced? Lastly, if Jessica was your favorite, whom, if anybody, are you rooting for now? Sound off in the comments! I'll be adding video of the elimination as soon as it becomes available. Until then, thanks for hanging out, guys! You've been stellar.
