American Idol 2014 - Recap - Top 10
The show opens with the contestants taking "selfies" to the song "Selfie". Oh how cheesy!
Ryan Seacrest and the judges chat about the recent earthquake in LA before introducing the Top 10.
Before the Top 10 sing we get treated to behind the scenes footage of the Top 10 doing media training on Ryan Seacrest's radio show. They are going on tour!
Theme: "Top 10 Hits"
The contestants can choose a song from the Billboard Top 10 charts from 2011 up to 2014.
| Contestant | Song | Voting Number |
|---|---|---|
| MK Nobilette | "Perfect" by P!nk | 1-855-4-IDOL-06 |
| Review: She sang in front of a mirror... then turned to the audience. Still no life -- four weeks now and still no improvement in her stage presence. Then she lost timing after she interacted with the audience. Awful. (She thought it was one of her stronger performances even if she messed up). | ||
| Dexter Roberts | "Cruise" by Florida Georgia Line | 1-855-4-IDOL-01 |
| Review: They slowed down the song so Dexter could be more intelligible. I think it's too slow! I thought this was one of his weaker performances. But the fans LOVE LOVE LOVE him. He has the perfect look for American Idol. | ||
| Jena Irene | "Clarity" by Zedd / Foxes | 1-855-4-IDOL-08 |
| Review: It was a slow start. But she was able to build up. When she screamed to get the glowsticks out -- she sounded like Katy Perry! Omigosh. I believe! | ||
| Alex Preston | "Story of My Life" by One Direction | 1-855-4-IDOL-09 |
| Review: So much better than the original! OMG, this could be a single now. I'm a Directioner and I love this! I was weirded out by the early "marching in place" though. | ||
| Malaya Watson | "When I Was Your Man" by Bruno Mars | 1-855-4-IDOL-02 |
| Review: I had such a low expectation... but Malaya delivered! OMG, this was her best vocal of the season. Wow. Go Malaya! She's really back in the game now. Woohoo! | ||
| Caleb Johnson | "The Edge Of Glory" by Lady Gaga | 1-855-4-IDOL-13 |
| Review: This was surprisingly a great song choice for Caleb! He nails the rock ballad. The fans will go nuts! Go Baby Meatloaf! | ||
| CJ Harris | "Invisible" by Hunter Hayes | 1-855-4-IDOL-05 |
| Review: I really love this song. However, CJ was out of tune. Very distracting. Worst performance of the night. | ||
| Jessica Meuse | "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster The People | 1-855-4-IDOL-10 |
| Review: Great song choice. Obviously Jess has sung this before and knows what to do with it. Great job. A breath of fresh air after the CJ disaster. | ||
| Majesty Rose | "Wake Me Up" by Avicii / Aloe Blacc | 1-855-4-IDOL-07 |
| Review: This was an Ok performance, but I think Majesty really needed more after landing in the Bottom 3 last week. I wanted more. There was only so much she could do with this song. Aloe Blacc cannot be touched. | ||
| Sam Woolf | "We Are Young" by Fun / Janelle Monáe | 1-855-4-IDOL-12 |
| Review: Because I am a huge Sam Woolf fan, this was absolutely a perfect song choice for him. I thought he delivered. Take that haters! He changed it up just enough to highlight his vocals. | ||
