'American Idol' producers developing a capella show
American Idol producers 19 Entertainment and CORE are developing an a capella singing show similar to The Sing-Off on NBC. Deadline reports that the producers have teamed up with Varsity Vocals which organizes the collegiate a cappella competition International Championship of A Cappella.
A lot of groups who participated in The Sing-Off have competed in Varsity Vocals events.
From Deadline:
A reality TV version of Pitch Perfect? American Idol producer 19 Entertainment and its parent company CORE Media Group have signed an exclusive deal with Varsity Vocals, the collegiate a cappella organization that organizes the International Championship of A Cappella, to develop a show built around the competition and the college students who participate in it. Under the pact, CORE becomes the exclusive production company with the right to shoot the ICCA competition for TV. I hear Varsity Vocals president Amanda Newman announced the partnership at the ICCA International finals tonight in New York City.
