American Idol Hollywood Round #3 - Recap

American Idol Hollywood Round 3 Recap.jpg

Another entertaining episode from American Idol. This time we saw solos and some of the singers did shine tonight, while others faltered (but somehow still made it?)

The biggest star of the night was Jacob Lusk who absolutely killed God Bless The Child. He's the black diva of the season no question. Up there with him was Casey Abrams who brought a double bass with him on stage. He turned me into a fan with his rendition of Georgia on My Mind.

Stefano Langone, Robbie Rosen and Haley Reinhart also did great I thought.

Disappointing performances came from Chris Medina and Scotty McCreery. Scotty -- who I am now officially calling "Baby Lock Them Doors" -- suffers from Kristy Lee Cook syndrome: he only knows ONE song. What a tragedy.

And because I love to speculate... is Colton Dixon the dark horse this season?

Las Vegas next week. I'm skerred.

Recaps from the Internet:

Hollywood Part 3 Recap: Nuts of Wonder In Your Jeans (Vote for the Worst) - Dave Della Terza: "... now we actually get performances with the backup band. The results were about as bad as I was expecting – which is to say, most of these contestants suck and I love it."

'American Idol' Recap: Chris Medina Among Those Getting a Ticket to Vegas (THR) - Shirley Halperin: "Jacee Badeaux, an audience favorite who'd won sympathy after being ejected by Clint Jun Gamboa's group... showed that if you're a strong singer, you can handle anything that's thrown at you. And isn't that what American Idol is all about?"

American Idol: Four Rooms of Doom (Miami Herald) - Howard Cohen: "Tonight's taped broadcast certainly was easier to take than all of the manufactured drama on Wednesday's two-hour assault."

Idol: Deeper cuts, standout voices (Houston Chronicle) - Joey Guerra: "No messing around tonight. Right into the singing. Each hopeful has one shot to impress the judges. And us. (At least for now.)"

'Idol' Recap: Saving The Best (And Worst) For Last (Yahoo!) - Lyndsey Parker: "Some of the singers, including some we hadn't seen much of before, really killed it. Others just seemed to die a slow proverbial death on that sad audition stage."

Idol: Did You Dig Round Three of Hollywood? (TV Line) - Michael Slezak: "... the remaining crop of potential semifinalists contains a mixed of big voices, passionate musicians, and a handful of personalities outfitted with tiny clocks set to detonate in an explosion of tears, mucus, and trembling at some point over the next couple weeks."

'American Idol' Hollywood Round, Part 3 Recap (AOL) - Hilary Rothing: "Earlier Thursday, Nigel Lythgoe told the press two things that come to mind right now: We'd see a lot of second chances this season and a lot of great performances tonight. A man of his word, that Nigel is."

American Idol 10 – Hollywood Part 3 (Solos) (MJ's Big Blog) - MJ Santilli: "I AM OFFICIALLY EXCITED! Nigel should pat himself on the back. The Hollywood rounds so far have been fantastic. Tonight he really delivered. It was non-stop singing for the entire hour, and in that time, there was talent that definitely emerged."
