American Idol 9 Top 7 - Recap + Poll + Roundup
Alicia Keys was the mentor for Inspirational Songs night on American Idol, which was lacking in song choice inspiration for the most part. Thankfully, the show was only one hour and Alicia was a great mentor.
Casey James again brought out his electric guitar, and I had a strange feeling he had done this type of performance before. He's always playing it safe -- and if he's not going out there every week to win, he may not.
Lee Dewyze was pitchy in the beginning of his performance, but it was a great arrangement and he made the song his own. Can't wait for the studio recording of this.
Tim Urban did great in my opinion, but the judges were back to their Tim-bashing ways after a couple of weeks of praise.
Aaron Kelly sang "I Believe I Can Fly" during his pre-school graduation! Loved that tidbit. The judges praised him for taking on a big song and not screwing it up. Save Aaron Kelly! He's from a small town with a population of 900. Let's help me achieve his dream of becoming the next American Idol!
Siobhan Magnus took on a Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston song that arguably the current iterations of Mariah and Whitney wouldn't have been able to sing the way Siobhan did. However, as Simon said, the butterflies were indeed distracting.
Michael Lynche again was off for me. He brought in an acoustic guitar when he had a rock-ballad type arrangement of a Nickelback song. What was that for? Props?
Crystal Bowersox stole the show -- and the week for that matter -- as American Idol talk was all about her almost quitting 2 weeks ago. Then tonight, she lays it all out and cries in the end. She even brought her lamp mic on the stage. Now that she is firmly the favorite to win it all, can she hold it together for the next few weeks?
My prediction for tomorrow: It's shock elimination time.
