American Idol 9 Top 11 Recap + Poll + Roundup

Tonight was rough! But we survived.
The American Idol 9 Top 11 will be remembered as one of the most painful to watch in Idol history.
Paige Miles, Tim Urban and Andrew Garcia were just hammered by the judges tonight and those three could be in the Bottom 3 on Wednesday. Simon Cowell's most biting remark went to Andrew: "Maybe we just over-rated that moment (Straight-Up) on hindsight." Ouch! In other words: "You suck."
Didi Benami was also disliked by the judges, but singing second to last may save her from the Bottom 3.
Lee Dewyze opened the show, and I thought he did really well. Aaron Kelly - singing with tonsilitis! - did a decent job, praised mostly for his song choice. I thought Katie Stevens gave her strongest performance of the season and the judges thought that Miley really helped her confidence.
Michael Lynche was OK, but a bit overdone according to Simon. And Casey James was OK too, but a bit boring, according to Simon.
Simon Cowell is going all-out for his support for Crystal Bowersox -- describing her as in another league compared to the 10 others who took the stage tonight. I thought she was amazing tonight.
But I still think that Siobhan Magnus will win. She may need to scream every other note to get there, but I think it's amazing how she does it.
I'll mull over my Bottom 3 and elimination for tomorrow. Choosing between Paige, Tim, Andrew and Didi.

‘American Idol’ recap, rankings, polls, top 11 performances (Rodney Ho) - The show should have stuck with “teen idols.” We might have been more entertained than this overly broad “Billboard Number Ones” theme.
Top 11 Recap- Miley Cyrus Saves The Season With The Best Episode Yet (Vote for the Worst) - Bless you, Miley Cyrus. I don’t care that you’re a trashy baby hooker that mentored contestants 10 years older than you for #1 hits week even though you’ve never had a #1 hit. And I don’t care that you somehow thought it was appropriate to introduce yourself to each contestant that you mentored as if they don’t know you. For you, Miley Cyrus, have taken an incredibly dull season of American Idol and made it hilariously entertaining.
Ann Powers: Underconfident, the Idols overreach (L.A. Times) - Hubris. Whomever remains to sing and, eventually, go on the summer tour after Wednesday's elimination round on "American Idol" should spend some time pondering that very old but suddenly relevant term.
‘American Idol’ Throws Its Very Own Party in the U.S.A. (Maura Johnston) - Tuesday’s ‘American Idol‘ paid homage to songs that reached No. 1 on the pop charts, with the singers being mentored by a teenaged starlet who has never achieved that feat.
AI Report Card Top 11: Oh, My Achy Breaky Heart (Idol Report Card) - Not sure what was behind the impetus to change this week’s theme from the previously announced ‘Teen Idol’ to the used-to-death “Billboard #1s”. Obviously, historically, Billboard has been saturated with #1s from hundreds of “teen idols”, but by changing the actual theme, Idol loses insurmountable ideas and possibilities. I mean, I won’t be so imprudent to believe that this tepid Top 11 would be so apt to actually research a Teen Idol canon, rather than merely pick a song they’re familiar with and (try to) run with it (“Ooh, look, Justin Bieber!” says Tim Urban. “I can sing better than him!” As monstrous as Urban has been, he wouldn’t be wrong).
