American Idol 8 Top 9 Results Prediction for April 1, 2009

I figured I would stay up late since "this" is what I do anyway. Might be over-analyzing things, but the nice part of this season is that things are not what we always expect them to be.

So the consensus seems to be Megan Joy leaving tonight. Unfortunately, I am totally against this. If she leaves, then we are left with a 2-6 gender split in the Top 8. I just don't think that will happen. Plus, Megan Joy now has the added advantage of being the scratch-your-head contestant on the show: everyone is asking why she's still in there. These guys never get eliminated. This is the reason they exist. So Megan Joy is safe in my book.

Another guy who fans want out is Scott MacIntyre. He got good comments last night from the judges so I believe he is safe.

Which leaves me with Anoop Desai and Matt Giraud.

Anoop sang in dreaded position #1, did not sing well and mercilessly got thrown under the bus.

Matt Giraud sang in the middle which is the kiss of death 3 out of 5 times we've had a Top 9 (Season 1 & 2 did not have a Top 9). He was also did not get favorable comments for his performance, but unlike Anoop -- Kara said she wanted him to stay and Simon Cowell said: "you should be happy we don't like you tonight" -- using his reverse psychology mojo again.

I think Matt is a safer choice to leave, but a single Bottom 3 appearance then an elimination the next week is extremely rare at this point in the competition. Look it up.

My Bottom 3: Megan Joy, Allison Iraheta, Anoop Desai

Eliminated: Anoop Desai
