American Idol 2014 - Top 9 BuzzDial Report
“I’m With the Band” was the theme of the night and some of the Top 9 Idol contestants proved they have what to takes to rock. From Coldplay and No Doubt to Florence and the Machine and The Beatles, it was not a show lacking in diversity. However with the exception of Caleb and fan favourite Alex Preston no one seemed to set the stage on fire and really blow away the three judges.
But it’s you that determines who goes through! As well as voting did you know you can be the judge just by tapping? Each week we’ve been reacting over on our BuzzDial, tapping what we feel about performances, eliminations and even judges comments. It’s super simple to use, you just tap the buttons throughout the show.Everyone has been embracing it especially throughout the performances and eliminations.

But reacting to Idol isn’t just limited to the contestants, we saw the dial go nuts for our two favourite boys. Once again the banter between Keith and Harry was a high point. Harry’s quip “What’s 40 feet long and has eight teeth? The front row of a Keith Urban concert.” had us sniggering wholeheartedly. It seems like the dynamic between the judges and their ability to create moments like that of last night’s gummy bear are what we have been lacking the last few seasons.
Cut to tonight’s show which is a half hour shorter but perhaps they just cut out all of Ryan’s suspenseful pauses. Mentor Randy Jackson is naming his fave contestants, who he thinks has what it takes to win.
Randy said one of his faves was Jena and the dial agreed shooting off to the positive and while there was a little hesitation with braces wearing Malaya with the ticker headed towards the negative she manages to make it through to the Top 8.
The boys all seem to be safe with a notable positive swing for the man of two initials, CJ Harris. Unfortunately there are only 8 places and as the suspense builds everyone seems to be getting a little hesitant both on stage and on the dial.
Majesty’s song “Shake it Out” left many of you shaking your heads and once again she found herself on the elimination stool. And there she stayed. You weren’t “Happy” with Majesty’s save song, with the dial staying firmly in the left hand side.
Would the judges use the save? Keith said it was the hardest deliberation yet and by a narrow margin there would be no save.Majesty proved she didn’t quite have the right stuff to reign supreme but as Ryan said she will be seen again on the Idol Tour.
As for us, catch you next week as the Top 8 take on a new genre, and don’t forget to check out some of our other dials here
